Better living through Coke chemistry

So, several people here (and many other places, over the years) have made comments like...

...I don't drink Coke because I've seen it dissolve (nails, pennies, whatever)

...I don't drink Coke because I've seen it permanently stain a sidewalk

...etc. I have to wonder: has anyone ever tried any of these things with lesser carbonated beverages? I mean, do we know that Pepsi does not dissolve small metal objects? Will RC (moon pie optional) not permanently stain a sidewalk?


BTW, I was born in the holy city (Atlanta) and am a lifelong follower of the Real Thing.

I avoid coke unless I'm nauseated, one glass and I'm wired for 12 hours from the caffeine.
