Wand of Orcus?

Hey Darkness, I have been posting on that official messageboard thread for two days now. I started the same question here, because sometimes this messageboard is busier than the General messageboards at WOTC, and I find the posters on this messageboard to be slightly more mature and informative.

Here are two more questions for anyone who owns the BoVD:

1. Is the wand of Orcus actually a wand, or a heavy mace? This has many ramifications. If its a wand, then wizards can swing it normally. If it is a mace, then you would have to have the appropriate weapon proficiencies to swing it properly

2. Is the wand of Orcus still an artifact, or is it a wand, or is it a heavy mace?

If it doesnt say anywhere in the BoVD that the Wand of Orcus is an artifact, then perhaps it is not an artifact anymore. If it is no longer an artifact, then it can be modified with the Craft feat. If it is still an artifact, then it would be nearly impossible to modify.

Wasn't my point; I wanted people to know where else they could look for information, nothing more. :)

...and my point was that I think you find information here as readily as you can on the official WOTC messageboards, perhaps even more so.

Damn I need that BoVD!

If wielded in melee, it's a +6 Unholy Chaotic Heavy Mace. If the wand touches any nonoutsider, or an outsider with less then 15 HD, the target must suceed at a Fort save (DC 25) or die immediatly. Anyone that touches the wand against Orcus' will must save or die as well.

It also confers a +5 deflection bonus to the Armor Class of the wielder at all times.

Finally, the wielder can call upon each of the following effects once per day, as the spells cast by a 20th-level caster: Abyssal Might, Bodak birth, Call Nightmare, Clutch of Orcus (DC 18), Summon Monstrer VII, Wrack (DC 18), and Wretched Blight (15d8 Damage, DC 23).

THAT'S IT???!!!! That's the official wand??? Now I know I won't be buying BoVD.

Cerebus Dark's version, OTOH, is downright scarey.

Right. Still, IMO, it's not an "either or" thing - that is, I prefer to get info from as many sources as I can. :)

Me too! :D

1. It's more properly called a Rod, but it can be used as a Heavy Mace. Although I'd assume the innate bonus would counteract any penalty for untrained use.

2. It's an Artifact. A Major Artifact, in fact. Right under the Ruby Rod of Asmodeus.
