Wand of shocking grasp question

Can you activate a Wand of Shocking Grasp and make a melee touch attack with it in the same round?

Well, casting a spell is a standard action. Casting a touch spell is still a standard action, but during which you may make a single touch attack.

I believe it's intended that you can make the touch attack when using a wand. If I'm wrong, then I better re-think my inflict light wound-wand-wielding character!

I'd say certainly... the touch is part of the action of casting the spell...

Yes. Granting a touch attack with the newly cast spell is explicitly mentioned in the spell description, isn't it?

For a spell, yes. I wasn't sure if casting from a wand was treated differently. Both are standard actions, so I suppose it is reasonable to include a free attack with either.

I believe that the Wand description says that activating a wand is "a Standard Action, or the casting time of the spell, whichever is longer". So, therefore, if the spell is already considered a Standard Action, then the Wand's default time doesn't even come into effect.

Are you suggesting what I think you are suggesting, ie the wizard activates a bunch of touch attack wands and distributes them to his non-arcane friends who then can make touch attacks with them?

Nope, you couldn't do that.
Technically, you'll have to deliver the touch with your hand.
But it's pretty reasonable to let the spell be delivered by the wand.

But note that activating a wand does not provoke an AoO.
Although the spell level and the save DC will be lower than if you cast it yourself.

it was in reality a two option post, badly blended as i was thinking of two scenarios in rapid succession...

one option what i was thinking of was that the activation of the wand incorporates it touching the target so basicly it becomes part of the activation action. all the other requirements for activation of a wand was still in.

the other option was that upon activation of said wand its effects transfer to the person that do the activation. he can then choose when to trigger the effect by basicly touching the target.

in neither he can activate the wand and pass it on to someone else as in one he uses the wand to touch as part of the activation. in the other the wand passes the act of touching on to the wizard that activated it. the wizard can then choose when to discharge the spell.

a combination allso works as he way be activating the wand with one hand and touching someone with the other to trigger the effect.

the last one may be the easyest to sell to the user tho. its basicly the same as casting the spell from memory or scroll.
