Wanting to move to new gaming city

I currently live in southeast Wisconsin, and as JimAde pointed out, in many respects it may fit the bill. There are a ton of gamers here, and at least five thriving stores (though of various sizes) in the greater Milwaukee area.

Just remember, they don't call it WisTAXsin for nothing. In the city of Milwaukee, you're looking at $3300 a year in property tax for a $130K home. In the DC suburbs, I have one friend with $1800 property taxes on a townhouse assessed at $340K. Now, I'll take lower cost property with higher taxes over an inflated price with lower taxes. But some people are irked by our high tax rate.

The job market isn't perfect here, but there are some high tech jobs--and Chicago is very close (with daily commuter trains from downtown Milwaukee).

I've been looking really hard at Wisconsin, It seems to be my number one choice at the moment. If you could expand on your opinions I would be grateful.

DC is a hidden gaming mecca. In the 10 years I lived there I had a contnous group fo good friends for 6 years. We were never in need of players as folks drifted in or out. Wonderful city to live in if you are young and single or even attached sans children. One of the best consitent employment market sin the nation year in and year out.

The down side is housing and real estate is expensive. One of the the top 5 most expensive cities to live in (but worht it in my opinion).

I did relocate from DC to Tampa. Great place to raise kids and i don't know anyone that could afford to tbuild the house I just built down here in DC. Gaming opportunities seem pretty abondant but I have not had the time since my son was born.

Austin, TX has a lot of gamers and a few gaming companies from what I understand. It could very well become a gaming epicenter one day! Housing seems very affordable. I've considered moving there even. It's a big city, so it probably has quite a few job opportunities.

I was thinking Indianapolis, IN might be a great place since housing is relatively affordable, too, and you can go to Gen Con every year and be ready for it! I'm not sure what the career market is like though.

Some other places you might want to consider are Oklahoma City, OK or St. Louis, MS. But I've never been to either of these places, so I can't say really.

What St. Louis is like?

Living around St. Louis, Mo. is great. I would never live in St. Louis. St. Louis is going through changes right now as in improving. The counties of St. Louis is better for Low cost housing, you can get a three bedroom house from $40,000 to $60,000 price range. We are the center of America so everything passes through Missouri some how. We are strong on the medical industry with several hospitals in the area of where I live are hiring for several positions.
Gaming wise: we have a couple of gaming stores one of which is a chain (7 stores) throughout St. Louis and counties. I am in a small group of people that I have gamed with and have known for 10 years. We do have gaming convention within 20 miles of St. Louis which is very popular called Archon.
