Wanting To Start A New Campaign. Final Fantasy? Help!

First Post
Ok i want to start a Final Fantasy-esque campaign. I was asked 'What Is It About Final Fantasy That Makes It Stick Out?'

What makes Final Fantasy stand out to me? The Magic, The Summoned Creatures and the Themes.

I would like my Final Fantasy a cross between 9 and 10. Some technology but not much.

And the Theme i want to be about Destiny.

The mix. High tech, but entirely powered by magical concepts.

and the summonings. The fact that every power seems to be tied to a being under your control, and you can bring them forth if need be.

I've contemplated this, and seriously thought about using the Four Colour to Fantasy rules for the magic system. It'd be hard to replicate in dnd terms in most other ways.

Hmm, FCtF for the magic system for an FF game? Now I may have to pick that one up(and I'd been hoping not to order anything else until Savage Species came out, Slayers Guide to Undead, and Quintessential Paladin).

The Big Hair in FF7 :D

No, seriously, I agree about the summoning. Having REALLY BIG creatures turn up and help you is always a good thing, and after a while you start to get a feel for the way they increase in power.

Plus, the waaaaay fun special attack, limit breaks, whatever they're called.

I'd say that you'd get the ability to use any spell-like attack used on you by an enemy.

I would not make it automatic unless the character actually ate the enemy. But then again, I am odd. :)

For me, I always liked the magitech mix. FFIV was my favorite for a long time. I play FFX the most now. I really liked FFIX too. Mostly it was the characters (Vivi was the best!) but I didn't like the end.

One thing you have to include is Airships! WAHOO AIRSHIPS! YAY! And a character named Cid. It seems like in every Final Fantasy that there is an epic, world-shaking storyline happening. And the characters are the only ones who can save the planet (although they are not always sucessful). Love interests also play a part in some of the games.

I had better stop before I stray too far into RPG Cliches http://serpent231.tripod.com/cliche.shtml

Hope that helps.
