Please don't tell me it gets worse!

My wife and I are already getting frustrated at the current difficulty level! :O

I found that level to be the toughest in the game. Some of the Night Elf levels are challenging, but no where near as frustrating as that Undead level.

Yeah, thats a tough one. My 5 yr old that I play with was about ready to give up, I think it took us 4 tries.

I also put lots of Zigs in front of the two entrances. I then backed each up with a couple of meat wagons.

The method I used to beat this level was slightly different from the suggestions listed.

If you send your hero to the left of the map you will find some "creeps" guarding mines.

You can also buy mines I think at the shops.

I did all the building stuff, created an army, but I also mined the whole place. Every entrance was mined - and I mean MINED. When the humans attacked en masse, I blew up most of their army. This then allowed for an easier defence. It buys you 10 to 20 seconds depending on your mining.

The other thing I did was to save the special monsters sent during the mission and surrounded the necromancer INSIDE the mine barrier. I had to click on GUARD a lot of times to make sure they didn't run out and fight when the humans attacked. This made sure that they would become a wall for me as well.

Lots of crypt fiends for the air attack, and I had 3 builders auto-repairing and building in the city, and the 2 entrances away from the city. I ended up with 9 (??) towers at each entrance.

Hope that helps.

I didn't use mines but the saving of the freebies(hellhounds etc) made the level for me. There were so amny cramped in with the necro dude that it just slowed the humans down big time. Also IIRC I used buckets of gargoyles, there fast and they slaughter the griffons and other anit air. And they don't suck vs the ground troops yet. Frozen throne they seemd worse to me.

And dang that last level on frozen throne is tough it only took me 2 tries but I beat it by a hair. I had held two positions, took a 3rd and moved to take the 4th, seconds before I got the 4th he retook one of my positions, I ran down retook it again, and he retook yet another of mine, he bailed from it quickly leaving minimul defenses for some unknown reason to try and take another of mine and we basically raced I got to the one he retook before he got to the one I retook. I guess I won because I had a horsie.

Biggest irritation were the freakin naga builders since they built there building around them protecting the builder and they basically have infinite resources so every time I took down a building they'd just start making another, and they could remake one before I could get a shot off to kill them after I took there new construction down.

I can't really remember getting into problems with the resources in that mission...
Me neither. But then, I didn't build dozens of towers. ;)

But I might just play it again, it's always fun to do so, if it is quite some time ago, when you last beat the game. :)
I almost want to stop playing Warcraft III now. I already beat it twice on Hard and I don't know how often on Normal (Frozen Throne: once on Hard, 1-2 times on Normal).

The big advantage of the towers is, that you still have a steady cash flow, since your income is only limited, if you have too many troops. So you can build up defense by keeping your troops in the 'green' level.
That's often a good idea (especially when you're waiting to gather enough resources for a big assault) but I've found other tactics more effective in this mission. YMMV, of course. :)

That certainly worked for me at least. :)
Hm. What patch version did you play it on? Spirit Towers aren't quite as tough as they used to be. ;)

The last Undead mission is one of the toughest in the game IMO.
Among the missions still before you, I'd say only a very few Night Elves missions are as difficult or more so. Also, your skills will increase more and more while playing. :)

The orc missions generally aren't that difficult - though I must say I've always found the third orc mission somewhat tough. Much more so than even the last orc missions, in fact...

Strange, I haven't found the last undead mission particularly challenging, although I have to say that I would have lost if the last attack had come only 30 seconds earlier... but anyway I made it on the first try.

I remember that I have built mostly ghouls, gargoyles and crypt fiends (with the web ability). Only a few abominations and meat vagons and basically no spellcasters, perhaps 2-3 necromancers that were soon killed and I didn't replace them. The army was basically divided in 2 halves, one patrolling between the front side and the right side of the base, the other between the front and the left. I specifically kept 3 spirit towers on the left side which was the least defended, with an acolyte or two coming up to repair or rebuild them after every attack wave. Don't remember exactly how many towers on the front and right sides, but not more than 2-3 each. I made extensive use of the Death Coil both as healing and damaging. I tried first to build as many units as I could, and then researching the melee upgrades and finally the aviation upgrades.
