warpstone..

what it is exactly has never been fully stated... warpstone is like a magical uranium, using it makes your spells more powerful but will drive you insane then turn you into a hidieous monster (or turn you into hidieous monster then drive you insane... or drive you insane while it truns you into a hidieous monster). You dont even have to use it in sorcery for it to effect you, eating tainted food, or just carrying some around is not the best idea.

:] I have evil plans swirling in my head....

Is there anyway for players to detect or tell it is warpstone?

Well, it is a nasty glowing green, most of the time, but no it is not a common item so would not be known to the general public or its effects, I guess you could have a INT or Gossip test to ID it by careers, like a Witch Hunter, Wizard (not apprentice), Envoy, Kislevite Kossar, Kithband Warrior, Miner, Noble, Norse Berserker, Runebearer, Scribe, Smuggler, and a few others MAY know what it is but not any of the others.

Good to know. I just don't want to be a hoser GM and give them something potentially dangerous without an opportunity to learn what it is.

Creating new characters is quick, right?

Seems so. I made one for the first time (for no reason at all) Friday night in about 20 minutes I think--didn't take long at least.

You roll randomly for your starting career after choosing a race (human, elf, dwarf or halfing). You make about five choices in your Skills and Talents between Skill A or Skill B, copy down trappings and common equipment, and choose your free advance and where you want to exercise your Mercy of Whoozit to raise one of your stats.
Then you play, apparently.

It was revised, it use to be black light-sucking but later became toxic/radioactive green, mostly in the paperback books. Warstone is not described in the game books at all, so it could be anything the DM wants, but it can be a rock, a powder, and a dust.

And there will inevitably be some Skaven after it...
