Warhammer Fantasy vs. 40k roleplaying

One additional question.....I see that skills work by taking the skill and looking at what attribute it is linked to and then rolling under that attribute in order to be successful on a skill test. So for instance, if you have the basic skill Gamble (Intelligence) and your Intelligence score is 40%, you must roll under 40% on the percentile dice in order to be successful in using this skill.

However, how would you treat an unskilled attempt? For what I can see you get no advantage for having a skill from a class except that you can use this skill now. Can you never make an unskilled attempt and if so, do you take any kind of penalty for not having the skill? I could not find anywhere in the rules that cover unskilled attempts.

What if you are in a tavern and you want to gamble against an NPC there but Gamble is not a class skill for you? Does that mean you cannot attempt to do so? Or is there some kind of way to handle unskilled attempts but simply at a minus?

If we're talking about Dark Heresy here, or indeed it it's the same in WHFRP, IIRC Advanced Skills can only be used if trained, where as basic skills like Gamble I believe use half your attribute score if attempted untrained.

You are exactly right! I found it after reading your post in Warhammer Fantasy RPG core rulebook pg 90.

Thanks!

Does casting work pretty much the same with Psykers in Dark Heresy vs. the magic system in WFRP? I assume the charts are different for magical backlash in DH though.

The Inquisition plot also requires the group to go along with "Playing the Lie" unless they GM wants to write a
"Get the Emperor off of the Golden Throne so he can die and be reborn to set thing right"
campaign.

Hey, that's just a theory held by some people in the campaign world about what would happen. Nobody really knows, probably not even the
flickering remnants of the Emperor's intellect, bless his little carrion heart
.
