WARHAMMER FRPG - I have it!

Oh, so there is material provided for playing non-vanilla races. Great. What do we get? Goblins? Skaven? Ogres?

Monsters are definitely a weak point of the book, from my quick thumb-through of the book. My guess is that they want to sell a nice hardcover monster book in the future. Given the absence of monsters in the PHB and DMG for D&D, I suppose we should be happy that it covers enough bases to get someone going but it definitely doesn't look as much like an "only one book needed to play" game as the first edition was in this regard.

So, are elves and dwarves still simply better than humans? Are halflings still walking, furry footed targets? Or did they balance the races out in this edition?

They look balanced to me, humans are the benchmark race and stats are better or worse compared to them. Halflings while weak Str and Toughness (not by much) they are the only race with talent Resistenance to Choas. ;)

Well, since Elves get fewer Fate points, they get fewer Fortune Points as well (think of them as Action Points). You may have a higher ballistic Skill, but if you miss, you don't get a lucky break.

They always were a bit sparse in the core book. WFRP tends to be less monster-oriented. The Old World Bestiary v1 is coming out in April though.

Apparently the WHFRP book will not be being sold by GW stores (at least in the UK), but independent stores will be able to sell it. I've had a look and it is nicely produced and I'm tempted, even though I don't have enough time to play the D20 games I want to.

I got this book yesterday instead of picking up my McFarlane Dragon's (boss gave me a dirty look even, LOL. I work in a comic/game shoppe and run the RPG section) and wow, I really like it and MAY have found that game I was looking for to cure my D20 blues. It seems simple and dark but with the potential for high adventure. I am going to try running it in a few weeks and see what the boyos think around here.

What I like, hit locations (the boyos will LOOOVE this)
THe lack of classes and the everyman feel of starting characters
Magick ROCKS

I can NOT wait for the bestiary!

Wow, I just bought the WHFRP book, along with Plundered Vaults and the Character Pack today, and what struck me immediately was how MUCH better the artwork in these books is than the WotC stuff! The art in these actually depicts scenes rather than isolated characters or creatures, and is so much more detailed, dark, and action oriented rather than static poses. Just flipping through the books and looking at the characters, scenes, and creatures displayed got my mind whirring with adventure ideas- something a D&D book hasn't done since 2E. Take note WotC, this is how fantasy artwork SHOULD be done!

I've also read through character creation so far, and it looks great. Very similar to the old WHFRP, but with some nice changes and additions made. Magic looks very cool from what I have skimmed so far, and the careers offered look great! I also love how the book interior looks like an old illuminated text without being distracting like the 3E core books were with their silly lines and margins. This is a top-notch product- run out and buy it!
