Warlocks...how do they play?

I've DM'd a Warlock for over a year now, I really like what the player has done with the character. Overall, one thing seems common, those people that have played with a Warlock that has tried to use their Invocations first, have rave reviews of the class.

Those that have played with a Warlock that mainly uses Eldritch Blast have said the class is boring.

UMD, Fell Flight, and Flee the Scene is all you really need.
Throw in the feats Spell Penetration, Maximize SLA, and Quicken SLA: Flee the Scene and you have some goodness right there. The Warlock in my campaign is very Nightcrawleresque, DD in to rescue a fallen companion on the front lines, or into the back ranks to cast Dispel Magic on an enemy spellcaster.

On the Treasure front the class is great, as you will be able to use most items with UMD.

I concede to your point, but warlocks can do both kinds (walk unseen), so my argument that they are better suited to infiltration stands.

The original point was skills though:

-a skill list with numerous social and infiltration skills, not least of which is UMD

From a straight skill stand point they soulknife is better at sneaking and the warlock is better at "impersonation" {I think I like that word better since it more closely captures the aspect of infliltration that is being focused on}. Which allow them to cover more ground wile MS.

A question is does the insight bonus to speed from Speed of Thought count as changing base speed? Probably not since it is a "typed bonus" and not like the barbarian's that has their speed increased (untyped).

Thanks for all your replies, and a special thanks to Nighfall...I think I will play a Druid (a good, Norse one with a wolf companion).

Thry,

Glad I could be of assistance. If you require more druidic info, I'm sure a) I can come up with something and b) you can still be smart and funny too. ;)
