D&D General Warlocks' patrons vs. Paladin Oaths and Cleric Deities

Yet for some reason it's not an issue for the thousands of PCs that receive the same training and same growth in abilities in exactly the same order. Why are NPCs different?
It is an issue! I hate it!

Edit: And also, there aren’t thousands of PCs. There are maybe 6?

How does a sorcerer lose his powers? A barbarian? A bard? A monk? You want to saddle classes with an off-switch to their power, saddle ALL of them with an off switch.
A Sorcerer's powers come from within, a Barbarian needs to Rage, a Bard needs performance, a Monk needs ki/focus, etc.

Also Wizards need their spellbooks, Druids need to revere nature, Artificers need their tools, etc.

If you're so vehemently opposed to the basic premise of a class then pick a different class.
