Warrior - Will Save

Iron will is always good for fighters.

After choosing that why don't you take a talk with the dm. From the tidbits you have disclosed is seems you have different expectations from the game and that causes you problems.

If you explain what you expect from the game and the dm does the same there is a chance that you can find some middle ground.

I am considering dropping the group, my best friend is in the thing, but the DM just... well, I dunno. I love to rp as much or more than the next guy. I am all for a good story. But you know, I have like 25 gold and boots of wilderness lore. Even my horse died last session. Its a sad sorry state of affairs.

Maybe your character should go into deep depression for a while then find himself spiritually and take a Vow of Poverty to show his devotion.

I've got some really bad news... iron will isn't a fighter bonus feat, so you can't take it at fighter 6. Even worse, extra rage isn't either. In fact you'll find not much is that will boost your will save. Hopefully your DM isn't too strict about this tho, but it sounds like he's not the sort to give your character much of a break.

Maybe have a talk to him and get him to let you redesign certain aspects of your character if he thinks its too strong... tone the damage down a bit (lower str maybe?) in exchance for being able to shore up some of the characters weaknesses etc.

He's the one that gave the character the 20 str, not me. Fighter bonus feats. I totally forgot. Is Mage Slayer a fighter bonus? Lets look. It is. So Mageslayer at 6th ftr and iron will at CL 9? Looks like it. Channelled Rage would be great too, from Races of Destiny, add Str bonus to will save as an immediate action.

True, although he could take one of them (I'd recommend Iron Will) at character level 9, which is two levels away.

Is it the GM's first game?

Sounds a bit like he just needs a bit of experience (and mucho player feedback) to sort out a more "balanced" style. IMO.

I feel your pain. I have a DM who won't let me keep a horse. It's stolen every time we're in town, or he tries to kill it (but been a cleric helps me keep him alive ;) ). And the horse thiefs always have Pass withot a trace cast on themselves. :\
