[Way OT] 129th Running of the Kentucky Derby!

First Post
I know this is really off topic, but it's my first off topic post, so I'm hoping the mods forgive me. It seems that among all of my friends and co-workers, I am the only horse racing fan.

I was hoping that by posting here I might find at least one or two people interested...maybe? heh

Today is the 129th Running of the Kentucky Derby. Empire Maker is favored to win, going off at odds of 6-5 so far. Many of the "pro's" believe that Empire Maker could win the Triple Crown this year.

I'm very excited...there hasn't been a Triple Crown winner in 25 years, matching the longest drought in Triple Crown history.

Yup. I'll go with Empire Maker, though admittedly I have little more than a passing interest. I don't follow horse racing beyond the major/televised events. I normally pick the favorites unless I've heard that someone I distantly know has a horse running, then I might cheer for them. In the end it doesn't matter since I don't bet on the races anyway. It was a lot more fun back in my bartending days. :)

I live just a little while away from Churchill Downs, and I really don't care about the Kentucky Derby.

But the horses have rad names! :D

Horses are, of course, smarter than humans. After all, you never see a horse lose his life's savings on the human race... :D

Okay, I'll not continue with horse jokes...

Occasionally I watch horse racing. I've got the TV set on the Kentucky Derby right now, but I'm half-paying attention to it.

I think this article here should be enough to make anyone a fan of Horse Racing...or at least make them a fan of Man O' War, the greatest race horse ever...or maybe I should say, the "Mostest Hoss they ever was".

This is also a good photo of Secretariat winning the Belmont by 31 lengths. The record still stands today and when the record was set it shattered the previous record by over 2 seconds...which in racing is an eternity.

So okay, I don't know anything about it at all... but... no one's won the Triple Crown in 25 years? How does that work? Wait.. unless the Triple Crown is not one race, but three seperate but linked races? And winning all 3 is considered winning the "triple Crown"? Okay, I think I get it, if that's the case. So what are the three? Kentucy Derby, Preakness (?), and ?
