D&D 5E We should domesticate Rust Monsters

And thus the mining town Hadley's Hope was shortly overrun. Little did the adventuring group know that Rust Monsters, left on their own, would spawn a very hungry Queen...
Now I'm imagining it as a town of warforged, with the queen implanting eggs into the constructs to slowly feed and mature until they violently emerge as rustbursters.

Geez, now I'm imagining someone carrying a (baby) rust monster around in a wicker baby carriage or a handbag...
Many people find the purring of small rust monsters very soothing, and the gentle vibrations a great stress releiver. Fashionable women often carry them around in their handbags, as a comfort animal.

It never ends well.

An adventure where you had to clear out a mine overrun with rust monsters would be crazy. It would definitely drive pretty much anyone besides the arcane magic users mad within a short time as all their metal armor and weapons get rusted away. It would definitely encourage creative play and creative inventories...

...or a lot of unarmed builds.

Rust monsters are presumably why the Industrial Revolution never happens in D&D worlds. With so much iron around, they'd just increase in numbers. Or else disgruntled artisanal workers would release a few near the railways or factories.

You really don't want to be on a train and discover that a family of rust monsters have been feeding of the tracks.

The players in my campain did just that. Every once in a while the Rust Monster is found eating a piece of armour or a weapon, so they scold it but can't stay mad at it for long. They took the habit pillaging small bits of different metals to vary its diet. They found out it loves to eat magic items but they make it sick.

Really seems like a job for druids. No metal shields or armor, shillelagh cudgel in hand, and claws/fangs & summons the rest of the time.

Except for the fact the druid planted it. You think the wizard is opposed to armor? They need their canned-meat-shield. Druids are more likely to drop rust monsters on a town getting too big for its charter. "Encroach on the forest? Guess it's time for some 'finding out'"
