Weapon Damage Questions

Let's say a power lets you do 2[W] damage. And let's say you make that attack with a +1 weapon. Do you apply the Enhancement bonus to damage once, or twice? Is it 2[W] +1, or 2[W] +3?

Also, I never quite understood high crit weapons. Ordinarily, a critical attack lets you do max damage. High crit weapons say that you add 1[W] to the damage when you crit with them. Is that extra weapon also maximized? So let's say you crit with a greataxe basic attack. Is that 24 damage? Or 12 + 1d12 damage? I'm guessing the latter, but I just want to be sure.

It is 2[W]+1.

12 + 1d12.

I hope that helps.

The rule is "anything you'd be rolling on a normal hit is maximized, but anything you only roll on critical hits you roll." So Sneak Attack and Hunter's Quarry get maximized, but the bonus dice from High Crit or from a magic weapon do not get maximized.

Really? Sneak Attack and Hunter's Quarry are maximized, too? Didn't know that... thanks for the info.

No they don't. Only the actual damage roll gets maximized, not things you add to the damage roll like sneak attack, hunter's quarry, warlock's curse, magic weapon/implement critical entries, high crit properties, etc.

I disagree. Reading page 278 i'd say that on a critical hit everything is maxed, except bonus damage that's rolled for the critical (as Mr. Teapot said).
Isn't this addressed in an errata? or a cust serv answer? I remember seeing an official response somewhere, but i don't remember where.

Edit: i found it

I would say, that the customer help is not really tangenting these specific rules.

On the other hand it seems to me the only thing where you could maximize "everything" because normally you have just one sort of dice either from your weapon or a specific one declared in the power, so what else should be meant with everything?

I agree that it could have been worded more clearly. However:
"Only the dice you would normally roll to calculate damage are maximized."
That means you maximize everything you roll on a non-critical hit, and because sneak attack\warlock's curse\hunter's quarry are rolled on a normal attack, they get maximized

"If another bonus (like from a weapon or feat) causes you to roll extra damage dice when scoring a critical hit, those dice are rolled as normal."
That means that stuff you roll only because it's a crit (high crit weapon, magic weapon bonus etc) doesn't get maximized.

See, that still doesn't seem right to me. This is all Answer #11 really says:
11. Which dice do I maximize when scoring a critical hit?
Only the dice you would normally roll to calculate damage are maximized. If another bonus (like from a weapon or feat) causes you to roll extra damage dice when scoring a critical hit, those dice are rolled as normal.
Weapon or feat it says. What about a feat like Backstabber?
Also, all features like Hunter's Quarry, Warlock's Cure and Sneak Attack all have a line something to the effect of: "Once per round, you deal extra damage... if you can make multiple attacks in a round, you decide which attack to apply extra damage to after all the attacks are rolled."
It seems weird to me that you can say, "Okay, I want to apply it to this one, so it's a crit with Warlock's Curse, too," after the crit has already been resolved.
On the other hand, it does say you get to apply it specifically after, so you might be right. I've never played in a game that did it this way, though.
