Weapon Master vs. Exotic Weapon Master

So which one is better on the long run, the Weapon Master or the Exotic Weapon Master. I'm thinking of playing one of those, but can't decide which one I should take.

That all depends on how you want to play your character, if you choose one weapon and simply want to be the best with it and never see yourself switching to a different weapon then the weapon master is the way to go. However if you're looking for a character who can pick up any weapon and do well with it, or switch weapons as needed for a situation, the exotic weapon master is the way to go.

Myself I'd go with the exotic, because I like to switch off with different weapons as needed, and the fact that no matter what type of weapon you find, you're skilled in it's use, and it takes 5 less levels to complete the ewm than the wm.

Just my .02

:)

I know someone who's character's tribe or backstory requires him to always use the weapon of the last person he killed. So he's constantly switching weapons. EWM is good for that. One of the PC's in my group only ever uses the Falchion - WM is good for that.

Also with WM it will be easier to have a really good powerful weapon, with EWM and constanly switching weapons it's doubtful they will be magical.

But I really like the variety of the EWM and the fact it's only 5 levels, so you have more levels to play around with other classes.

Yeah, but you could possibly get your helpful party cleric (or wizard) to cast greater magic weapon on them before you enter a combat.

Or any of their other many weapon enhancement spells. But that is not always the best thing to do. Heck, it's not always able to be done. Or you get hit by that dispel magic. However, sometimers it's just easier to have a really good magical weapon to begin with. :)

The frosted side of me likes the Exotic Weapon Master more. None of his abilities aren't limited to a number of uses per day and he can swap out to all sorts of different weapons, each one tailored for the task.

The wheat side of me likes the Weapon Master more. While he can only use some of his abilities a limited number of times per day, they are really good abilities. The downside is he is stuck using the same weapon to get all the benefits.

I think the EWM has more "fun" potential, especially when coupled with the right feats, though the regular WM is more powerful. A Fighter/Master of Chains/Weapon Master can do unholy amounts of damage with a Spiked Chain. A Barbarian/Fighter/EWM can do a little less damage but is more flexible.

Another thing to consider is how to get there. The WM is easily done a as straight Fighter. You needa lot of feats, but none of them are wasteful.

EWM you need Rage and 3 EWP. That's a little tougher on the character. Those EWP aren't nearly as useful while you are working towards the presige class.

It's not such a big deal. Let's forget taking a monk level.:D Instead, you could take a level of bard and/or rogue for 1 or 2 free EWP's. And the prereq. for rage is just stupid imo. This prc should've been in S&F.

Well, bard gives you whip and Rogue gives you hand crossbow. But yyou lose out one BAB for each of those, although your reflex save will looks good, and the will save won't be bad. The fort will be hurting. And now you've got to worry abiut XP penalties.
