[Weird Ideas] Eric Noah is My Half-Fiend Love-Child

Okay, so the title is just there to get your attention. I mean, it is somewhat related. . . but not directly. . .

It just occured to me tonight that the clutch of half-fiend gnomes (that all suckled from the same greater succubus) that are one of the major sets of recurring villians in my "Out of the Frying Pan" Campaign, were inspired in chat - during a discussion of the Ettin song "Eric Noah is My Half-Fiend Love-Child" - and I put forth that if Eric is a gnome (which he does bear some resemblance to) that he is a half-fiend gnome and *PING* the idea went off in my head - I already knew gnomes were going to play a major role in my campaign - but now I was going to infiltrate them with demon spawn. It was brilliant (and has worked out very well).

So anyway, that made me start wondering about the sources for other weird ideas that turn out cool when carried out. . .

Anyone have some examples?

i used to have the handle Hobin Kobad, a character name i came up with from the MM when i randomly flipped to Hobgoblin and Kobold.

Oh, and another screen name was Commisioner Id, which i came up with when me and my friend were writing up a short skit about Comander Gonad, and the greek hero Testicles (thats testicl-eez to you, bub). He just popped up next to Frau Superego, and Herr Ego, her husband.

Note: I wasnt high when i thought this up, just in high school english class. If you stay there long enough, it amounts to the same thing.

A beautiful elven bard who controls an army of undead and wants to unleash a dread force into the world.

Heck, who'm I kiddin', 90% of my campaigns are just wiggy ideas. :)

My campaign has seen a few kooky combinations of species and profession, including a gnome pirate, an ogre gunslinger, and an awakened Deiyonichous (dinosaurs are animals IMC) Loremaster/animal rights activist (DOWN WITH ZOOS).

In the category of kooky magic items, in one campaign I included a near-worthless "intelligent" longsword that believed that it was, in fact, the spirit of Heironeous (I'm rather fond of the Greyhawk pantheon, so I usually include most of the gods from it in my campaigns.) trapped inside a weapon. It was very loud, and very annoying. And very fun for me until the campaign ended (I wonder why...)

I also recently included a cursed intelligent -5 longsword. It was created by an absolutely incompitent wizard who's lack of smarts ultimately lead to a rather messy downfall (details never given nor invented.) As a result of his patheticness, he was always extremely depressed and begged the PCs to destroy him. He said it would take a creature of great power to do away with him. Finally, they needed someone to scout out an area that happened to have an ogre in it. Five seconds later a ball of twisted steel hit the wall behind them.

Finally, not a magic item but mystical nonetheless was chet the sentient hologram. Chet was very polite, and when the PCs discovered him he had been locked up in a dungeon for several years with no one to talk to. He's extremely chatty and extremely knowledgable, which comes in handy since the group lacks a "Smart man" (and a healer and a sneak and a...). Since my campaign world has computers, he's recently gotten a modem installed so that he can surf the net... constantly.

Half-giant (sometimes half-orc) Barbarian/Cleric named Hakyn Slash is a recurring Character/Villain/NPC

I also once had a NPC singing rock named Hortence
who was part of the Circus that my gnome Orbril put together.
Anyway the whole 'I want to start a Circus' idea became the whole motivation for Orbril and soon took over ther campaign

DM "the huge form of the tarasque looms before you"
Orbril "oooh Tarrasque - I grab my +5 Orb of Entrapment and go and catch it - Gotta Catch them All!"

Some of my friends downloaded American Pie. I knew it'd suck, but they put it on anyway.

I've been planning for months to sic an intelligent Holy Sword on them. It can talk, is lewd, and goes by the name of 'Stifmeister' :D
