Weird TV Show Theme Songs

reveal

Adventurer
So today I'm singing "The Jeffersons" theme song to myself.

"Movin' on up... To the East side..."

And I get to the line "Fish don't fry in the kitchen. Beans don't burn on the grill."

What the heck does that mean?! I never really thought about it before. Anyway, has anyone ever heard a theme song for a TV show and just thought "WHAT?!"

This is just a guess, but I'd say that fried fish and beans are symbols of the lower-class lifestyle the Jeffersons are escaping from.

I guess they don't eat that kind of stuff on the east side.

Yeah, I pretty much had surmised a long time ago that this meant they were no longer doing these things in their "Deeeluxe apartment in the sky". It's simply that they are now beyond such "poor" things.
