Weird Way to Permanently Damage Undead

Hm... since vile damage can only be healed in a hallowed area, if you deal vile damage to evil undead- it's pretty much permanent damage.

Am I missing anything on this? It just came up last game...

Personally, I'd say that the undead are immune to vile damage, unless you're using BoED "deathless" rules. I might even rule that taking vile damage grants an undead temporary hit points on a 1-for-1 basis (ala negative energy).

Demiurge out.

The rules are pretty vague on that aren't they?
If you think about it if Devils and Demons start doing vile damage and there being no way for evil critters to heal it.

The abyss and the nine hells would start looking pretty empty!

Unless there is another definition of a "hallowed area" that I'm unaware of, an area under the effect of the hallow spell would qualify. It's fairly clear that undead CAN enter a hallowed area by the definition of the spell. Why would it grant a bonus to turn creatures that couldn't enter the area? Also, there is nothing that specifically forbids them from entering such areas in the spell description.

So they could heal vile damage in a hallowed area...it just isn't likely to be available to an undead creature. If you are talking about a lich though, they could easily disguise self and pray in a church until the damage was healed.

I'd go with it. Vile damage can only be healed in a hallowed area.
But then, since when do the inflict wound spells count as healing?

Ahh, that's the crux of it then.

My mind's not made up on this one; I'm definitely looking to gather opinions before I make my final decision on how I'll run it imc. (It only counts as having 'come up' if the undead survives a fight, so it hasn't yet, but it's going to soon- maybe next game, actually...)

I don't have checked if undead are subject to vile damage at all but isn't somewhere stated that the inflict spells work for undead like cure spells for humans as an example. So the cure spells are healing, so are inflict spells healing for undead. Would anyone verify this by means of the FAQ, would be nice. Problem solved.
