I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
So now that the Oscars are in the bag (woot, Parasite!), it's time to look forward to this year's slate of movies.

Given the nature of this forum, I'm not going to be asking about boring old movies. Naw, we're looking at interesting and/or blockbuster movies that have been announced for this year!

And ... it will be a poll! Yay, POLL! You get to choose SIX.

Here are the choices, along with the criteria for the choices:

A. The movie must be announced for 2020.
B. I am only going to list a maximum of the 38 of the most interesting looking movies. Why 38? That's half of the list I'm pulling from, and IT'S A LOT TO TYPE!
C. By interesting, I will be using my judgment as to "geek interest" and "nerd cred" and "blockbuster potential" and "ability to write something mildly funny, to me at least."
D. Any movie already released cannot be included, since you aren't looking FORWARD to it. Sorry, Bad Boys 4 Life.
E. I am not including any movies with a February release date because of poll timing (sorry, creep Sonic and Invisible Man).
F. I am using this list to generate the choices:

Now, the list of choices, arranged by order of release and hyperlinked to the Rotten Tomatoes page if you are unfamiliar with it:

Onward (Pixar animated fantasy)
Bloodshot (Vin Diesel's Valiant Comics super soldier)
A Quiet Place Part II (Now even quieter)
Mulan (More live action, less uncanny valley animals singing)
The New Mutants (I liked this on TV as Legion)
No Time To Die (Shaken, not Stirred)
Antebellum (You had me at Jonelle Monae in alternate reality)
Black Widow (Marvel says, "Look, we are hip the women of today.")
The Personal History of David Copperfield (You have to trust me on this one- just look it up)
Greyhound (You had me at Tom Hanks in a WW2 Movie)
Legally Blonde 3 (Do you need a description?)
Spiral (Saw franchise re-saw-ified)
F9 (Han was dead. But he got better)
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (Pack your edibles)
Artemis Fowl (Hey, Divergent worked. Oh, wait)
Wonder Woman 1984 (How does it feel, to treat me like you do ....)
Candyman (It's not a remake, it's a.... sequel? Okay? But Jordan Peele is producing)
Soul (Two, Two, TWO PIXAR FILMS THIS YEAR. Muahahahahaha)
Top Gun: Maverick (Lana? Lana? Lana? DANGER ZONE!)
Free Guy (Ryan Reynolds + GTA = Profit?)
Minions: The Rise of Gru (The sequel to the spinoff)
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (Don't cross the streams)
Tenet (It's Christopher Nolan, do I need to say more?)
The French Dispatch (It's Wes Anderson, do I need to say more?)
Jungle Cruise (Based off of the Disney Ride ... yep)
Morbius (Jared Leto is not the Joker, he's Morbius)
Bill & Ted Face the Music (John Wick returns to tell you- don't head shot. Be excellent to each other)
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (This is a Conjuring movie)
The King's Man (The prequel to the Kingsman franchise)
Last Night in Soho (Edgar Wright + Horror Movie = ????)
BIOS (Tom Hanks is the last man on a post-apocalyptic earth; it's Cast Away, with no volleyball)
The Witches (From Roald Dahl)
Snake Eyes (Go, JOE!)
Halloween Kills (Sequel to the sequel that killed off the other sequels)
Eternals (Marvel Phase 4, ENGAGE!)
Godzilla vs. Kong (Sometimes, the title says it all)
Dune (It's Dune. You know- first real attempt since Lynch to do it. DUNE.)
Coming 2 America (McDowell's)

I picked:
A Quiet Place II - loved the first one, so fingers crossed.
No Time to Die - I will never pass up a Bond movie.
Black Widow - I mean, come on.
Wonder Woman 1984 - I mean, come on!
Eternals - I'm very curious to see what they do with this.
Godzilla vs King Kong - GKotM was a dumb, dumb, dumb movie, but I'm glad I saw it on the big screen.

Those are all good choices!

FWIW, I was surprised by how many movies there are this year that I wanted to see. A lot of tough cuts. So I ended up with-

The Personal History of David Copperfield

Hard to explain, but Iannucci (In the Loop, Veep, and the amazing Death of Stalin) doing a Dickens novel (??) with an amazing cast. I think it could be brilliant.

Wonder Woman 1984

Gal Gadot. Chris Pine. Wait, Chris Pine? And 1984! I. Am. So. There.

Tenet

Nolan. Can't think of a movie I didn't love that he did since I first saw Memento in the theater.

The French Dispatch

Anderson. Can't think of a movie I didn't love that he did since I first saw Bottle Rocket in the theater.

Bill & Ted Face the Music

Personal choice. Most likely it won't be good. But the original will always, always have a special place in my heart. San Dimas High School football rules!

Dune

Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049) + Herbert = I'm there.

Thanks! :D

Now that you mention the folks behind each of these movies, I am officially interested in them, too. Arrival is a personal favorite.

Legend
Honestly, I'd struggle to make it to finding six movies on this list that I'm actively looking forward to. Most of this batch I'll happily wait and stream once they're available for home viewing.

It will already be out while the poll is running.

I vote Wonder Woman, Ghostbusters, Free guy, Dune and Coming 2 America because I'm curious how these will turn out, but I forgot Morbius actually looks neat and I'm also curious about Eternals.

Cannot vote for Sonic, this poll is invalid
Going to see it next week (I don't expect it to stay in theatres around here that long) and I've already seen it receive positive buzz so I'm looking forward to it! I thought it'd be a train wreck but it's apparently good?!

Yeah! That looks really intriguing. It's a great story, arguably one of the best Arthurian tales.

I voted for Black Widow, Wonder Woman, and Morbius. The Black Widow movie is long overdue and I loved the first Wonder Woman.

Morbius...sigh. It is hope mixed with dread. Morbius has long been one of my favorite superheroes. But Sony hasn't had a great track record with their non-Marvel assisted superhero movies, and Jared Leto would not have been my choice for the role.

However this "Green Knight" thing that showed up today also looked quite interesting.

Explaining a bad decision doesn't make it a good one

Mallus

#1 - #5 The French Dispatch
#6 Dune

The trailer for The French Dispatch just dropped and I can’t stop thinking about it!

(oh, I’ll probably see the new Wonder Woman movie and the Pixar fantasy quest, too)

Tonguez

Oh I hadn’t realised they were doing an Artemis Fowl movie - that could be interesting

I’m most eager for Mulan and ambivalent about Wonder Women, I will see Ghostmasters for nostalgia.

the rest don’t interest me much yet
