Hiya!

I think, iirc, Birthright, Spelljammer and Dragonlance. But it's not what I picked...as to what I specifically DIDN'T pick. Simply put, I just don't trust WotC do do a reliable "conversion of a setting for 5e" from an old one. I did figure that Spelljammer is 'broad' enough to be able to handle whatever they do to it (and it is also non-specific enough, oddly, to be easily ignored as 'canon' if you want). I think Birthright could be done, but again, easy enough to just ignore if it turns into a hot mess. Lastly, Dragonlance has a bajillion pages written for it in sooo many different ways (articles, novels, short stories, setting books, adventure lines, even a cartoon), and the writers are still alive and active in the RPG'ing (and 'writing') communities that I think WotC would be hard pressed to really "mess it up".

That said...I'm pretty sure WotC could screw up all three I chose. I mean, if Hollywood can mess up just about everything they touch in the last 10'ish years, pretty sure WotC/Hasbro can do it too! ;) There are exceptions, but few and far between. I don't want to take the risk.

(oh, and before anyone askes, I would have chosen Mystara, Greyhawk and Homebrew; I don't want WotC even looking at those first two settings!)

I would love two local settings for the anniversary:

• Arneson City of Blackmoor
• Gygax City of Greyhawk

Then I can plug these cities into any setting that I use.

All this white people in native american inspired clothing really do not age well
In their way, they were showing appreciation for an other culture. But it is hard to borrow and reuse elements without actually becoming a member of that culture.

I’d love to see blackmoor by gygax and greyhawk by arneson
The world of Greyhawk, planet Oerth, destroyed Blackmoor. You can see its ruins in the far north on the map. There ended up acrimony between them, after the legal battles.

Mystara preserves Blackmoor.

It would be cool if a new Greyhawk resurrects Blackmoor. (Forgotten Realms has done weirder things!)

Actually, the ruins of Blackmoor according to the Greyhawk Oerth seem too far inland. It looks more like the ruins of Ringlo Hall in the Elven Forest. Whereas the town and castle of Blackmoor themselves are on the coast (one hex space west). So perhaps, the ruins are of a prominent nearby city, while the "old city", the ancient town of Blackmoor, is still populated and existing on the coast.

Here is the map of the original Blackmoor. Note the castle and town of Blackmoor (red dot) on the coast, and the Elven Forest comprising most of the peninsula. Mystara preserves this original setting by Arneson and his players.

Here is the map of the ruins of "Blackmoor" in planet of Oerth (World of Greyhawk). Note that the ruins are deep in the peninsula, not on the coast. It seems that these ruins, arent the Old City of Blackmoor, proper. Blackmoor itself is one hex away east on the waters edge. What are waterways in Blackmoor appear as wetlands (swamp, marsh) in Oerth.

Dark Sun, Spelljammer, and Homebrew, so it looks like I got an A+ on this test. Looking forward to seeing what they do to reboot Spelljammer and I hope we get more psionics with Dark Sun.

Hypothetically, the region around the original Blackmoor built a new capital city farther inland to rule the "Archbarony of Blackmoor". This capital city was destroyed in war and is now in ruins.

However the original town of Blackmoor might still be in continuous use, albeit more modest in size.

By the way, on the planet of Oerth, you can find the City of Greyhawk far to the south of Blackmoor. Greyhawk is south of the great lake of Nyr Dyv, on the banks of a river coursing southward from it.
