What 3e (& 3.5e) terms are you sick of?

I LOATHE the terms FLGS. What is so damned friendly about my local game store? Have you been there?

Some people may have a local game store, but no FLGS, and I don't think that anyone who says "support your FLGS" is advocating shopping at a place where the guy is an unholy jackass.

Just a thought.

This isn't a term but it is a pet peeve of mine. Why do so many DM's always assume that you have to use monsters and not other humanoids to throw at the party?

Heh. I always say the worse monsters are humans.

Consider this - if you are a creature able to see under most circumstances (even if no torch shines, no star brights the night and so on), wouldn`t you become even more frightenend by total darkness than a human, who is accustomed to it because he experiences this every day?

Darkvision, then.

I'm often tired, and I can't fall asleep and rest in daylight. Plus, bright light like an unclouded summer sky give me headache. I like shadows. Shadows don't give skin cancer.

In answer to the various things regarding

BUFFS!!!

When one of my players casts "Bull Strength" on another player, he says "Okay, *rolls die* you get a plus 3 to strength". He doesn't say "Okay *rolls die* you get a 3 point buff to strength". Nor do my players say things like "Make sure your wizard memorizes a bunch of buffs for tomorrow". Nor do I say to a player, "what buffs do you have to your AC?"

I find this kind of talk extremely annoying, and it makes me think that I'm playing Diablo or something instead of an RPG. It just irks me in that sense. We mostly talk as the PHB does... using terms like "bonus" or "plus".

To those who informed me that the term originated with MUDS - you're probably right. Is it okay though, if I still give Everquest credit for making it ANNOYING?? I don't like insulting MUDS, even though I never really played them... they're text-based, and the Zork player in me appreciates that. ;)

We usually use "out-of-game" instead of meta-game, although I never heard meta-game before coming to this forum.

I'm also sick of my players saying "That doesn't make sense" when a rule comes up that they don't like.

Ooh Ooh! I forgot one! NERFED! I hate this term, as most of the time when I hear it, its some player bitching about how I "nerfed" his character by not letting him take 5 points from his charisma to add to his strength (thereby giving him a 22 strength), or didnt let him flank an enemy because his mirror image spell was probably on the other side of said enemy. BLAGH! BLaghhhh, I'm going mad!!!
