What are people doing with the epic handbook?

The epic handbook has been out for a while and parts of it are in the 3.5 SRD, so I wonder what are people doing with epic levels. Specifically:

1. Any epic level storyhours?

2. Any interesting epic sourcebooks/rules/material?

3. How have the epic rules worked out in normal campaigns?

4. Any epic forums or message boards?

thanks

Blah. Nothing. Flipping through the monster section occasionally is about it.

Epic Level Handbook was the single most disappointing product I've bought. And I bought it for about $14 with low expectations.

Nothing. Zip. Zilch. It was a good read, but since my main campaign is Dragonlance it will probably be a long time before I integrate any of the ideas.

Piratecat's are pretty close to being there last I checked.

I haven't seen any directly dedicated to epic yet, but it would be nice if someone out there could interject a bit more engaging feel into epic levels.

Some new books, like XPH and some third party books, have included things like epic progressions. (I forget which book it was I saw that had epic progressions in it but I think it was a GR book.)

3. How have the epic rules worked out in normal campaigns?

It worked alright. The creatures are the best part, and I got some good mileage out of those. The epic spells really need some work.

My game brushed into the low epic levels (22 or so). It was a lot of work to manage, but its interesting sometimes playing around at those levels.

4. Any epic forums or message boards?

There's an ELH forum on the wizards boards.

We ran the really crappy adventure in the book (did anyone get past that dragon?) and that was our one and only epic adventure. So, four guys gaming for about five hours, twenty total hours of playtime. $25 isn't at all bad for an afternoon of fun and the look on my buddies faces when they realized their +5 vorpal weapons were toys to these creatures was priceless.

Use of Epic Level Handbook

We have used Epic Level Rules since 3.0 originally came out. There were "Beta Epic Level Rules" on the net - the same ones that are in the First Forgotten Realms Campaign Book. We had a campaign go from first to the mid-forties - (yes, I know what you are thinking) (keep in mind our campaigns are combat heavy and are very fast paced). When the Epic Level Handbook came out we converted our characters. My 2 friends - one of which is the Munchkin (Min-Maxing) King - could not easliy convert his character to the new ruleset and keep the same feel. Min-Maxing can be, like all things, good in moderation...

Anyhow, the rules have worked well. The feats are good, and the scalability of skills works well - albeit, some skills scale better than others... The monsters are pretty cool... I think my favorites are the Epic Dragons. The Epic Spell system is quite unwieldy - creating a epic spell takes too much work. I have done it once and my head still hurts. I think the mechanic itself works ok - it does require a little too much intense understanding of how the designers put the system together - understanding the game mechanics behind certain things for balance and so on. It has been quite awhile since we have played that campaign - so I am writing this from what I remember.

Our DM Rocks- he is the Schnizzle - It is combat and story intense - we have a lot of rolplaying and the things that we do effects the game world. He is easily able to handle the complexity of Epic DM'ing as he is an DM of Epic Proportions.... I will stop now...

One of my story hours (To War Against Felenga) is epic-level, and the pcs are going through my epic version of Return to the Tomb of Horrors. This all prolly starts around page 9, when they pick up Patyn.

It's been really fun so far, but there hasn't been a lot of epic spellcasting or anything yet. None of the pcs have taken the epic spellcasting feat yet and we're still feeling our way into it; but the party's been built up from first level. Some of the pcs date back to 2e (one of them even to the first game of the campaign).
