What are the chances of that?

Heh, in a combat last session the partys Dwarven Barbarian was rolling for damage with his Flaming Greatsword and another player said "Cmon, man, 666(max damage). And he rolled 666. Hehehe, I love it when that happens. :)

Yeah then out pops that annoying little imp that says "Hey Damien! Get ready to sell me your soul for that roll!" ;)

It's fun when that happens. The players in one group of mine are very amusing for me, since I have a tendency of saying, "Roll a 1/2/etc." and they only remember the times when it's happened and forget the umpteen times it hasn't. So now they claim I jinx their rolls and won't let me touch their dice :D

Rolling 1 6 on 1 die is 1 in 6 (obviously) probability.
Rolling 2 6's on 2 dice is 1 in 36.
Rolling 3 6's on 3 dice is 1 in 216.
Rolling 4 6's on 4 dice is 1 in 1296.

My players usually only have 4d6 per hit.

During a board game there was a spot where the only bad roll was a 1. (You turned into a toad, it was talisman). I kept annoying my co-player by saying "the chance of that happening 2 times in a row is small" "the chance of that happening 3 times in a row is tiny" "What are the chances of it happneing 4 times in a row!" Yep, she got toaded 4 times!!! She was convinced that I had access to the Orbital Mind Control lasers or something. :p

Many years ago while playing WEG's Star Wars, one of the players had to make a check for something, and had about 15 d6s to roll. He rolled 14 "1s" and 1 "6", on the wild die. Which he promptly rerolled for a "1"
The rest of the night was spent discussing whether the governement or the devil was behind it.
Turns out it was statistics.

So last session in one of the three campaigns I'm currently in...

The DM rolled a Nat 20 to hit my character with a Scythe. As my AC is pretty decent I thought the odds of the crit actually landing was fairly small... the scythe bearing critter was Power attacking after all.

2nd Nat 20.

Dropped my poor hapless hero to -11 in a single hit. Only 15 minutes into the session.

Power Attack + Crit x4 is just fricking wrong. My lvl 6 Ranger type got downed by a single CR 2. How sad is that?

Them's the breaks. Find a cleric or break out the stat dice... :p

A few years back, my 2E ranger (high level, 3 attacks/round) dropped three d20's for an attack roll. All three came up "20".

Needless to say, I spent the rest of the session smirking.

Heh, In WH40K I used to play against somone who had the worst luck on the planet. He played Imperial Guard and one game, for very nearly every shot, he got exactly enough to miss. If the unit needed 4s he got 3s, if the character needed 3s he got 2s... Except for his heavy weapons, those all blew up by the end of the game.
