I voted "Limited time and resistance to change" but the real reason is we are old. At least for the primary group. We have mostly played D&D in recent decades but back in the day we tried a lot of other. Now there is resistance to learning new rules. If 2024 D&D was not addons to the base of 2014 I do not believe the group would have changed no matter how much I loved the new rules.
The younger group I am involved with might be more open to change but I do not referee for them.

Several of my potential player base dislike Horror settings.
Several of my player base don't want to learn new systems every 4-6 months and have drifted away.
One group, the system we all want to run requires a better VTT than I have, because it is card based.

Limited time and resistance to change. I have a biweekly group that plays every other Sunday from 1 to 5. They only have so much time to play and are presently playing Pathfinder 1e. I didn't suggest an Alien War/Hero System one shot to playtest for upcoming Gary Con. I got zero response on messenger.

As I posted on this forum on another thread I got a group of players that only wanted to play 3.5 D&D texted me, saying that they were not coming back because I mentioned that I am my wife would like to run a game, different systems, and they only wanted play 3.5 with the one DM for 2-3 years.

Still upset about that since I have been trying for a long time to get a game going at my house.

Regarding the VTT question, since I (we) don't demand that a VTT do all the bookkeeping for us, the only limitation is if Maptool can't handle the basic resolution and/or positioning stuff. For the most part, the likely cases for this are ones I (and probably some others) wouldn't be interested in anyway.

It’s a stark contrast to a group I was in a few years before joining my current group. In that group, everyone ran something, and everyone had PCs for each campaign. So we played D&D 2Ed, GURPS, HERO, RIFTS, WoD games, a slew of various mecha-centric RPGs, and even a couple of playtests. (Probably stuff I’m forgetting, too.)

Noting while reading through responses that this seems to be a common touchstone i.e. a group that has more than one table runner, who then runs a different system for the group. And if they're not all running at the same time, allows the current table runner a break.

Thinking back, this was the group I was in at one point. We had two or maybe three table runners who ran different rpgs? We'd only actively play in one at a time. When we finished one, if someone had something ready, we'd discuss and if the vibe felt right, we'd switch over.

Having that arrangement also made me more willing to try to run a game as well.

The only other arrangement that seems to have similar exposure to different systems are when the forever DM has players who regularly like trying out new games or the forever DM who says this is what we are playing, and goes from there.
