D&D 5E (2014) What Are Your Favorite Parts of the New DMG?

It applies only when a melee attack takes an undamaged creature to zero hit points. The remaining damage may be applied to any other target the attack could have hit (so creatures within reach that have the same AC or less). The process may be repeated until you run out of damage to spill over or valid targets.

How very Warhammer Quest! Cool!

It gores further than that - you can carry on doing it until you run out of damage, even. Which would allow a fighter to really wade through an army of goblins
Highest damage single hits tend to be from rogues. So cleave will allow a ROGUE to really wade through enemies by subtly hitting an enemy with a finesse weapon.

Best thing about the DMG is that it is out.

The highest damage single hits, yes.

A fighter has multiple attacks and Action Surge. If a single attack does more than enough damage to kill a creature, a TWF fighter at level 5 could (with 5 attacks in a round) easily dispatch up to 7 to 10 creatures in a good turn. Depending on class options, possibly more.

Then again, an assassin attacking on the first turn of combat, getting an automatic critical... ow. But that does very much fit the fiction of what a good assassin could do.

Really love the art. And the tables of course, especially the ones around world building :) The WotC team really deserves credit on this one.

He can only do that ONCE per rest; all other rounds, he's got 3 attacks. Save your surge for the big bads.
