All I really want in the way of new base classes is a good dedicated shapeshifter class. Please. :)

I'd like a base shape-shifting class myself, a real archer class is badly needed and a dedicated summoner class that starts out weak then ends up with frikkin huge final fantasy style summons would be aces! Another one I'd like is a pure unarmed martial artist class with a meaty d12 hit die, good BAB and saves, so you can make anyone from Stone Cold to Bruce Lee.

Check out Dr. Awkwards Bruiser class for exactly this. Thus far, there is a level 4 'Pugilist' (as we call this class) who is on par with what a fighter would be at level 4 - so, IOWs, quite well balanced. I highly recommend adopting this class in lieu of monks - it's what I've done in my games :)

Back earlier in the thread it was mentioned there is no official specialist classes for a number of other schools of magic, but it didn't look like anyone mentioned transmutation. Is there no love for specialist transmuters, or has everyone just gotten sick of Full Metal Alchemist wannabes?
Well, there are

Abjuration = ?
Conjuration = ?
Divination = ?
Enchantment + Illusion = Beguiler
Evocation = Warmage
Necromancy = Dread Necromancer
Transmutation = ?
Universal = not needed

And I can't wait wait for each new one to be published :D

With the possible exception of the Beguiler, I would say they haven't put out a decent new base class since Oriental Adventures- that is unless one considers class variants as per UA to be new base classes. Thankfully, we have third party products to rectify the situation. However, this is just my opinion and your opinon may differ.
Wow, OA was released fairly soon after 3.0e was released, so I find that crazy it took you 5ish years to find a new class that you found worthy. Any "big offenders"? Just curious, is all :)

Have you looked over many of the base classes put out by WotC between than and now? Which ones are you familiar with?

If that sounds confrontational, or defensive, it's not. Just thought I'd add that, due to the 'tone' in a fair whack of threads right here and now.

Right. *phew* :)

Way I was thinking about it would look something like so:

Enchantment & Illusion: Beguiler.
Evocation: Warmage.
Necromancy: Dread Necromancer.

Conjuration: (New 'Summoner' Class)
Abjuration & Divination: (New 'Warder' Class)
Transmutation: (New 'I can't come up with a good name for this' Class)

IMHO:

Conjuration = Summoner class
Abjuration = Arcane Guardian class (Warder does have a nice ring to it, though)
Divination = Oracle class (seriously, I'd love to see a good diviner class all by itself)
Transmutation = Orphic Shaper? Transmogrificater? There are indeed few words for a class such as this - although they all sound pretty frickin' cool!

Actually, in the same sense as a Beguiler is Enchantment & Illusion to fill out a character type, I would make a class that specialized in both Abjuration & Conjuration, able to cover all aspects of planar magic. The Diviner should be a class all by its own, and there is a name I came up with for a Transmutation specialist. See, for Christmas one of my Aunts got me Webster's Canadian Dictionary & Thesaurus. Not exactly the most thrilling gift, but it is useful. Looking up synonyms for " transmute " left me with one I liked, to make into a name:
The Resolver.
