What do you look for in a Story Hour?

Quoted for truth.

Total hijack, alsih20, but are you gonna be at GenCon this year? I've always wanted to meet you and say thanks for the i.r.p.g. stickers that you provided for the first NC Game Day. If you're not gonna be there then maybe we can meet up this fall when I go with my wife to visit her family in Memphis.

GenCon is a blurry maybe for me. I have a brother who lives 3-4 miles form the convention center so I always feel easy about leaving the decision till late. :)

However, if you are in Memphis definetely holler. :)

And if you ever need more stickers, just let me know. :)

When reading story hours, I prefer:

- good grammar, spelling, and formatting. The writing doesn't have to be perfect, but typos drive me nuts.
- shorter updates more frequently. Longer updates discourage new readers.
- ending on cliff-hangers.
- brief summaries ("Episode 3, in which heroes panic and trolls get fed")
- writing that shows, not tells.
- an indication that the author is having fun. :)
Wow. That spared me alot of writing here. That's *exactly* what I wanted to say.

Though "shorter updates more frequently" is funny, coming from PC :D

Anyway, in my own SH, I write all the updates in a short time frame after the game. The question would be, now, whether readers prefer a period of one small update (each entry is roughly 1,500 words) every 3-4 days, then a downtime of 2 weeks (me game monthly), or would you rather have an update every week, but then continuously?
I try to cover the downtime with extra entries (menus from taverns, maps, etc.), but still.

I'm well aware of the irony! But I'm back from "once a month" to a "once a week" schedule, and I'm commited to staying there. Storyhours like Spyscribe's, Diaglo's and Silver Moon's that update consistently have an easier time finding readers.
