Dragonlance What do you want from a Dragonlance 5e?

18th level PC in 1e/2e does not equal 18th level PC in 5e
Never said they did although I do disagree with your statement. I'd say in terms of power level for their respective systems they'd be somewhat equal, in both systems they are near the pinnicle of their power.

Anyway, I was talking about adventure paths, looking at them, I think most only go up to about level 10 with a couple going higher than that such as Rise of Tiamat and dungeon of the mad mage but otherwise, if 18th level is retirement level in dragonlance then a dragonlance adventure path going from 1st to 18th would be suitable, at least if you wanted to simulate 1e (not sure I would). Personally, I'd probably just run rise of Tiamat as a dragonlance adventure instead.

Definitely do not want to go near this, so many variables! :p

That would be cool, with the factions at the council meetings being the various Knightly Orders, Clerics of the Citadel of Light, The Wizards from the Towers of High Sorcery, Racial Nations (Qualinesti elves, gnomes of Mount Nevermind, Plainsmen Tribes, dwarves of Thorbardin ...etc)

That doesn’t set DL apart. It sets the meta history of the DL product line apart, but the actual world is wholly unrelated to how it was first published.

And you seem to have interpreted “low to mid level” as “low level”, somehow. I’m not another poster, I’m just me. Please keep your replies to me constrained to things that I said.

5th level in AD&D wasn't "low level" It was mid level and on higher.

I put you together with the other poster who was largely agreeing with you (or so it seemed) that DL was somehow a low power setting. It's not. DL started at 5th level. Good grief, Darksun didn't even start that powerful.

Raistlin was third level but the rest of the party where higher.
yep but didn't he have only 8 or 9 hp? So his 3rd level would be like worse than a 5e 1st level mage considering that hew had 2 first and 1 second level spell whereas a 5e mage has unlimited cantrips.
Ok he had the staff of the magus already didn't he? This is one beast of an artifact. Dunno how to properly convert that to 5e. I think one of the actions was final strike, triggered by breaking the staff, dealing 250 damage to all in the surrounding, no save allowed and the caster either also died on a failed save or was teleported to another dimension.

Well, see that's where the books and the modules are a bit different. Raistlin had a 10 Con. Pretty much average. I remember back in the day being a bit taken aback that he was average, considering how much ink they'd spilled in the novels about how frail he was.

I think he had only 8 HP since the test he took left him frail. 10 con is average but not a good stat to have for a 1e or 2e mage. Although 8hp is average rolls on 1d4 (x3) you still have to agree that it is an absolute PITA to play a character who drops dead as soon as a goblin looks at him with an evil grin.

I'd argue in relative strengths, a double digit level AD&D character is FAR more powerful than a 5e one. The 5e character might be a bit harder to kill, but, the baddies in 1e are a lot less powerful relative to the PC'S than their 5e counterparts - 64 HP dragons, for example. Sure, it's got that breath weapon (which the PC's conveniently can block thanks to that magic staff), but, the Heroes include three or four 5th and 6th level fighter types, all with magic weapons - that dragon doesn't last more than a round usually.
