What do you wish was made into a game?

Id like to see Engel turned into a Storyteller game ( the d20 version just doesnt jive with me)

Actually, in the german original version, Engel IS a storytelling game. In fact, the main rules system is the "Arkana" system, which is based on a variant "Tarot"-set, the premise being that the players draw cards, and - depending on the card - describe the result of their actions. Damn good game!

My list

Another vote for Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind. Other than that Magic Knight Rayearth(the anime version), Way of the Tiger(game book series from the mid 80s), Bloodsword(another gamebook series), Don Callender "-ancer" books(pyro- and geo- in particular)-a bit of backstory on the last one the forces of good faced of the Darkness centuries ago, but suffered heavy losses, only a handfull of the magic users surved. Now Darkness is making a comeback... Dragon Arms[manga](epic), HunterXHunter[manga] & "In Conquest Born" (psionics), Sword-singer(-maker, -breaker)[book]. From games it would be fun to see "Phantom Brave" or "Disgaea:Hour of Darkness" as games.

Just watched "City of God", a Brazilian movie that came out a few years back. I was immediately struck by how good a game it could be made into. Just non-stop balls out petty gangster action set in the slums of Rio. Add an otherworldly aspect and, voila! Instant pulpy type, brutal gangster setting in an exotic location. Great characters to draw upon too.

What I'd really like to see

I would really like to see a space opera game that is not a liscenced product. Something that essentially takes the same tropes as in Star Wars, and recasts them in an form. Using the d20 Modern/d20 Future rules (I don't like a lot of the Star Wars d20 ruleset).

Of course, any such product would also have to match my invisible criteria of what I want, and probably wouldn't appeal to anyone else.

Guess if I ever want to see something like that, I should write it up myself.

Ok so What a friend of mine said was true about Engel (whenever it comes to this particular person our group puts anything he says in the realm of fantasy).

You know i completly forgot about Narnia,
Gundam d20 (preferably G-gundam)
DBZ (the current game {or did it get cancelled?} by Talsorian games is soooo broken its not funny)
Apocalyptica (a crappy PC game but it had a neat premise, might make a decent d20 game)

I wonder how many of these have actually been considered or even made it to development before being scrapped.

Don't Panic

This is what The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has to say about a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy RPG:

"A game in which a group of frantic and imaginative people assemble in someone's basement to make believe they are heroes, villains, wandering adventurers and beings in possession of vast magical power already exists...it is called Politics. THe primary difference between this and a session of the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy RPG is that Politics is better paying and less enjoyable for all involved..."

Grab your towel, that Ol' Janx Spirit and activate the Infinite Improbability Drive! Gaming in a universe of Vogons, Paranoid Androids and Hoopy Froods would be the ultimate experience for those who like their SF on the off the wall side.

I was afraid to even mention this as one of my secret, hidden in a closet, blow out the birthday candles wishes is to be involved in the creation of an honest to goodness HGTTG RPG. I've been working on a homebrew system for sometime.

A Chronicles of Narnia D20 game would also be of great interest.

NewLifeForm
"Mostly Harmless."

  • X-Com (only to have someone save me my current effort)
  • Thundarr the Barbarian
  • Someone should take another shot at supers of just about any kind. M&M just doesn't do it for me. I hear tell there's a City of Heroes RPG in the pipe and I think that may suit my needs/desires much better.
  • Star Trek d20. (set just after TOS for preference, maybe WoK timeframe. Eariler better than later.)
  • A Doom/Half-life setting would be cool ahm-a-thinkin'.
  • Somebody mentioned Flash Gordon. Something retro-future like that or Forbidden Planet would be fun.
  • Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Take the movie setting and trappings and do something INTERESTING with it in an RPG.
  • War of the Worlds. Any era. Or maybe just any good apocalyptic aliens vs. earth setting like Independence Day. Some good modern/near-future era rules and then provide a variety of alien-invasion scenarios and opponents. Come to think of it that sounds like X-Com would fit the bill.
