What happened between green ronin and osseum

Can you tell me about it?

Sure. I started a thread about True20, and Caliphate Nights, a setting for True20 by Paradigm.

Basically the True20 rules are based off of d20, but they use some simplified processes. For example, there is only one die, a d20. The wealth system is quite different as well, and there are only three classes. It is my understanding that these rules were first used in the Blue Rose setting, and later there was a demand for the ruleset which brought us the True 20 rules as they are today.

It seems to me to be a very portable ruleset, and easily interchangeable with d20. In fact, over on true20.com they have forums with people working on fitting the ruleset into settings like Star Wars.

So to end the threadjack, go here and see what people are saying!

Sorry about the threadjack, but it was a worthwhile one IMO.

All right guys, back to the issue at hand.

What can be done.

I know green ronin is not asking for handouts, but how do we protect companies that make good material from things like this. I mean, how do we keep the companies we like in business if the money we pay for their books never make it to the company. And especially, what can we do to try and help the company out besides spreading the word.

In my opinion, Green ronin is one of the three best d20 publishers.

My big three are Alderac entertainment group, fantasy flight games, and green ronin. How can we promote those companies we enjoy?
Any ideas?

John

Buy their stuff.

Get your friends to buy their stuff.

Use it in your game.

Post details about how it's actual use was in your game.

Write reviews of the material.

Is there a particular reason why no one is willing to mention the Osseum CEO by name in this thread? Would that violate one of our rules? Not trying to cause trouble, but I'm genuinely curious. The identity is a matter of record, and I bet Eric's Grandma can Google for it easily enough -- I know I did. It seems bizarre to have this discussion without calling him out.

I'd kind of prefer folks not mention his name. If you're interested in helping to track him down, you can see finding out his name as sort of a pre-test to joining the effort :). That said, if his name is brought up, the fact that this thread has been looked at by site moderators might open the site to legal troubles (especially if, say, he's found by an overenthusiastic gamer who decides to play Dirty Harry). I don't particularly want this board to turn into D20's Most Wanted. Folks who are in the know have readily-available email addresses, and if you really want to know the name, finding it shouldn't be that difficult. Just keep that sort of thing off the board, is my thinking.

I think that is a wise precaution. You just never know.

I definately think it is a good idea not to mention the name. I mean, we don't want to get enworld in any trouble. I just want this guy to be found

It was particularly galling for us because the period for which we never got any money back for sales corresponded with the release of a series of big hardbacks (the Advanced Bestiary and the Advanced Player's Manual), an even bigger licensed hardback (Black Company), and a boxed set with three books and a poster map (Egyptian Adventures: Hamunaptra).

I bought all three of those hardback books, and at a time when my RPG buying had cut back greatly (thanks in part to another of my favorite lines folding entirely). I really like GR and their stuff, and I really hate that over $100 of my money went to some @$$hat instead of these great folks. :(
