What happened between green ronin and osseum

Joe gave some good answers to this question. I'll just add that if you folks want to see us continue doing d20 stuff, try supporting our new Bleeding Edge line of adventures. The first one, Mansion of Shadows, is hitting stores next week and is also available as a PDF. The second one, Beyond the Towers, is in layout. We already have 10 solid manuscripts for the line, the question is can we sell enough to justify publishing them.

One of the two exclusvie products in the Freelancer Fundraiser is also a Bleeding Edge adventure. So far the Mutants & Masterminds book is outselling it by a large margin, despite being twice the cost.

If you show us that you want more d20, we'd be happy to do it. Hell, Rob Schwalb would probably come to your house and kiss you.*

I really hope you do keep doing d20, though I understand it's a business decision. It's one of the reasons I went out and finally bought the Hamunaptra box a couple months back-- sort of my 'monetary support' as it were. It's very disappointing to find that your company didn't see the money from it. At least, I assume, when I bought the pdf of the players guide from the website you saw that.

Will look at Bleeding Edge, but oh, my poor, aching gaming budget . . . shrinking . . .

That's a pretty big list of publishers, really.

I keep hearing "he skipped town", but doesn't Seattle have a nice, large, calm body of water nearby (Puget Sound, IIRC)?

I'm just sayin'.

Personally, I think the idea of a bunch of angry fans seriously thinking they're going to track down and find this guy is more than a little disturbing.

Not to mention unrealistic. Didn't either Chris or Ben mention up-thread that a P.I.'s already made the attempt and come up empty-handed? I mean, I realize not every PI's created equal, and we all can't be Magnum, but seriously; you're Joe Blow Internet D&D fan. You really think you're going to have better luck?

Green Ronin's a fantastic company. It's produced some of what I consider the best d20 stuff out there. The Mythic Vistas line - which, sadly, was discontinued - was particularly cool. The Black Company and the Medieval Players Manual are top-notch. Mutants & Masterminds is pretty much the gold standard for superhero games. It's lousy to see them struggling to get back on track just because of stuff beyond their control. I look forward to their Bleeding Edge line.

This may be a stupid question, but GR got all of the money from pdf sales, right? (OK, it is a REALLY stupid question).

I love GR and have purchased a lot (True Sorcery, all three Advanced Guides, some of the Races books) from them in the last several months. I don't have to feel guilty that they didn't see a penny from my purchases, right?

Hopefully they got full profits from online sales and that mitigated this disaster somewhat. I'd like to think that I was part of the solution and not the problem.

Hang in there guys; you are currently my favorite designers out there (the Advanced guides see so much use in my campaigns...). Win an Ennie or three!

(Writing more reviews for them: what a great idea! Saw that in an earlier post and it hadn't even occured to me. I will get on that)

The money from our webstore, be it for print or PDF sales, goes directly to us, yes. We also sell PDFs on RPGNow and while that doesn't go directly to us, RPGNow pays promtly every month and we've never had any problems with them.

Osseum hurt GR and a few others in a big way.

The sad thing is that GR and a lot of others (FDP included) had gone through this a little while earlier with Wizard's Attic.

It's a tough, tough industry, and it's far easier to lose LOTS of money than it is to make a penny. We've had to re-think our entire strategy pretty much every year we've been in operation. I think there are a lot of assumptions that the "big names" (and I consider GR to be a big name, at least in my world!) are doing well and it's just the little guys that are making a tough go of it, but often times the "big guys" are the ones that are in tighter spots, since they've risked more on production and products.

I am always a big fan of supporting your local game store and keeping the hobby alive and growing... but every once in a while, it's a good thing to buy direct from the company as well, either from their website or at a convention... just to see that they get the little extra love that they deserve.

- Trying not to get swept up in the doom and gloom industry discussion too much!

I know Suzi loves to write affirmative notes to people who order direct from us. :)

Handwritten. Now that's customer service.

She wouldn't let me do it 'cause if anyone recieved a handwritten note from me they'd think we had chickens in our warehouse. Retarded chickens. With pens. And super glue.

I didn't have a handwritten note in mine, but I saw handwritten instructions to the delivery folks to take special care not to get the book bent, and I definitely appreciated that :)
