D&D 5E What happened to the Hermaphrodites???

Are you suggesting he is a member of the alt.right?

Why do we care who was consulted for 5E if no objectionable material was included in the game? Is there objectionable material in the game? (I haven't found any but I wasn't really searching for it either.)

Ad_hoc is just doing their part in the ongoing smear campaign/conspiracy theory from the troll forum they hang out.

They really like new games and I mostly like old games and so do the women in my game group therefore I must be part of the alt right and there must be something wrong with 5e because I was consulted on it.

Even if, like, there's nothing particularly offensive in 5e and there's no evidence of any of that.

I suggest everybody just report ad_hoc for posting misinformation and move on wth their lives.

Words change meaning all the time. In my first post, I expressed surprise that hermaphrodite is an offensive term, but I learned something today. Hermaphrodite IS an offensive term. It wasn't, originally.

It still isn't, some people just need a thicker skin. It's a scientific term, such as homosexual, hetrosexual, homo sapien or male. You don't see anyone getting offended at those terms.

Most of the times it's not even the labelled individual that takes offence.

I do not hate the items because they treat changing genders as a curse; I hate them because they are poorly played out, frequently by adolescent gamers (or puerile adult gamers) who focus too much on physical characteristics and gender stereotypes.

.

Wow, in what weird games did you play... really, in all the time playing, it hasn't happened that a gender switch changed the person's behavior, asides from having trouble with the new body and trying to get back to the old normal (which usually worked). Not ever has anyone tried to imply anything, although sometimes hormones had a certain effect but that was the player's doing in most cases.

Really, you're shocked at MechaPilot's experience? Purely anecdotal on my part, of course, but I'd bet money that his experience is more common than yours. Your last sentence is kinda funny, yes, it is the player's doing in ALL cases.

Strategy #1: Chide the other party for being offended in the first place. Ex. "You're just being overly sensitive."

It's a scientific term, such as homosexual, hetrosexual, homo sapien or male. You don't see anyone getting offended at those terms.

Strategy #2: Claim authority over use of the word due to its use in other time periods, contexts, or cultures. Ex. "Black people say it to each other all the time, so I can say it, too."

Most of the times it's not even the labelled individual that takes offence.

Strategy #3: Claim that the other party's offense is contrived or disingenuous. Ex. "You're not even black, so you have no reason to care."

Put it all together, and you have a thoughtful and compelling argument.

I just assumed that THEY assumed that anyone that the other group was mad at, must ipso facto be on their side.

Except "Strategy 2" is false. It's neither a different time period, a different culture, nor is it a different context.

It is the scientific (and thus global, culture you're out) word used (currently used, goodbye time period) to denote a creature with both (all?) Of its species' reproductive organs (the context it is being used in, farwell "different context").

Beyond all of that though, there is no such thing as an offensive word, despite what Youtube wants you to believe, only offensive context. And I will gaily argue that point to my dying breath ;)

I don't grok this.

When people talk about an "offensive word" they are essentially using that phrase the way you are using "offensive context."

(Also, I hate that I have adopted a word from an author whose later works - including the source of that word - offend my literary tastes)

Then explain why people are suggesting it was removed for being 'offensive' when used in a completely reasonable context.
