D&D 4E What has you excited about 4e?

I wish people would stop blaming Vance for Gygax & Co's poor design decisions. -_-

I actually look at Vancian spellcasting as sort of a symbol for that. Clerics & swords is another, but we got that one stamped out long ago. :)

But ... positivity

I'm definitely intrigued by the new 'wizard toys.'
I'm looking forward to seeing what the new Warlock looks like.
I'm looking forward to the flavor changes, particularly the planar fluff. Who are these new gods? What are their stories? What's happened to the political landscape of Hell, especially now that Azzy has ascended?

* Faster GM prep
* Better multi-classing
* The re-balancing of lots of things
* Fighting styles
* Cheap PDF copies of my books

Creating new societies, adventures and NPCs based on the consequences of the new rules.
New roles, character types and tactics to try out as Player or DM.
The Warlord - Armies need leaders and it sucks that bards are currently the best at it.
Less reliance on piles of basic magic items
New skill system -
Second wind rules - although I already see some HR involving fatigue to simulate adreinal shock.
Reduced options - Im tired of using nine books in a session.
Faster Prep.

If 4e delivers on what it promises to deliver....

Faster play and faster prep times

The prep time is the big one for me. a game session shouldn't take more than a hour to a hour and a half to prep for (assuming a 4 hour session)

I like the idea of race affecting you throughout your career

I am also jazzed about the type of weapon choice affecting your fighters feat access.

Everthing, but mostly some new WotC books that I might consider buying. Haven't bought one in about 3 years. ZERO prep time, lots more balance, lots more actions, no more negative stats, and no more of that pesky Vancian magic.

Sounds like all the houserules that are near and dear to me are still going to work in 4e, and that makes me happy.

I'm excited about faster prep and easier referencing on the DM's side during play. That leaves more time for improving exposition.

Fewer deviations from d20+stuff vs target number, so my Raising the Stakes, Conviction, and Death Flag mechanics will work great with them.

A lot of the encounter design stuff they're talking about feels like my TRAP system echoing back at me.

The idea that the game is designed Heroic / Paragon / Epic means I know exactly where I want the game to be, and it sounds like some kind of E6 will work there too. Maybe it will be E10 or E8, but I like what I hear.

Anything that bunches up this many panties HAS to be worth at least a few minutes of my time. 4E has been polarizing ENWorld since it was first speculated about shortly after 3.5 was released. It's more insane than ever and looks like it will only get more heated before things cool off.
