Not if you've got kids. ;)

Accelerator Operator... I'm one of a crew that operates and maintains a 4-mile wide particle accelerator. I get to play with antimatter, cryogenics, and assorted high-voltage equipment, amongst other things.

As such, when it comes to modern and sci-fi games, I can techno-babble like no one's business.

Sales: Having dealt with people in various situations, I think I have a good grasp on both understanding someone's point of view, and persuading them towards my own. Helps when settling player disputes, and running negotiation RP.

Tech support: See above. Gives me some background in problem-solving, though, which can help with setting up puzzles or traps.

Amateur writer: I've never been formally published, but I like to think I'm a decent story-teller. Hopefully helps with plots and making a realistic world to play in. :D

ha! good point. :p

in somewhat a reverse of the main idea of this thread, i'm a math major at college right now, and i don't think i'd be interested in math at all if it wasn't for role-playing games... all those years of playing HERO has prepared me well. ;)

Chef: i tend to make really good snacks for the group. when i dm and there is a feast or meal in an inn it is always very well described.

Firefighter ------> ICU/ER RN ------> Poison Center RN

I know all the bad things that can happen to the body and can give great descriptions of wounds and the effects of toxins. I especially like describing old wounds!! Oh, the smell!

Somewhere in all that school, I worked doing computer graphics for awhile - not good but I can do some mean maps (I think).

I'm just wrapping up my second year of studies in Computer Science and Physics... so far, all I've gotten out of it is a few well-reasoned arguments on how long it takes a falling character to hit the ground. ;)

My actor training alongs me to shout, complain, argue and enjoy my D&D sessions because I have good breath control. I can also project my voice very loudly for a long time.

:D

Plus of course, I like to think it means I can roleplay my characters better.

My legal education makes me a great rules lawyer (not such a bad thing when you're the GM). :)
Also, my PhD involved a lot of philosophy, and some of that shows up in the game cultures.
