Battlemaster is REALLY popular...wow...20 people out of 49 voters played one!
I've played one also, but I didn't vote for it because I didn't particularly enjoy it. (I was new to 5th Edition, and still trying to get the hang of combat.) I'll probably give it another go someday.

Are the features of the Illusionist too weak? I feel like the one that lets you make illusions real for a short time is pretty neat... walking across a bridge and then seeing enemies plummet through it because it's just an illusion is some Looney Tunes shenanigans right there... but it also comes in super late so I dunno.
That doesn't come online until level 14, which is well past the average point where most campaigns end. Compare that with the Diviner that gets its key popular feature as soon as it's picked as a subclass at level 2.

Malleable Illusion seems pretty lackluster
I would play the hell out of an illusionist if I was in a game starting in the mid teens, but one awesome ability at 14 unfortunately doesn't balance out the rather meh abilities before then. Especially when combined with the fact that illusions are usually much trickier to navigate at the table than other wizard abilities.

Tell me about it... I'm on my second character with Minor Illusion (Way of Shadow Monk) and I still have NO idea how I'm supposed to use it...

Try being on the other side of the screen and walk the adjudication tightrope. Grrr. So many effect and you’re trying to keep them in line with other spells of the same level. It’s a major headache.

I've played and enjoyed a life cleric and an evocation cleric. My votes might be a bit skewed since at the time, I was using DnD Beyond and only had access to the SRD subclasses. Since then I've played and enjoyed a couple of others but they don't count since they aren't in the PHB. I mostly DM so don't get much chance to try out classes unless I use them as NPCs to foil the party.

My advice with Illusions is say “Yes” if there is a clever idea behind it. Don’t stickle over the precise wording. Technically Minor Illusion can not be used to make an image of a creature, but if a player wanted to create an image of a bunny to tempt a starving hill giant under the effects of Confusion spell I would say: Sure
( with the caveat that the image is going to be stationary and statue like).

In re: to Illusionists...Malleable Illusions at 6th level can be cool. One can cast Disguise Self, walk into a crowd, around a corner, into a phone booth etc, and change your appearance, all still using the initial casting of the spell.

Creation, the spell, could be used to create a boutonnière the character wears, which in plant form lasts a day, and then transform the boutonnière into an Adamantine Crowbar to open a stuck door and back again.

Mirage Arcane could be used to Kidnap a portion of city. A Simulacrum could be recycled into another creature....the effects can be quite potent.

I think people traditionally are wary to play an Illusionist due to Nerf herding DMs, whom are uncomfortable beyond Damage Dice, and the fact that Illusions sucked in 3e.

Diviner and Abjurer powers are DM proof.

I would love to play an Illusionist. Any openings in Los Angeles groups 😊

I think that, right there, pretty much says it all. They can talk about DM empowerment until the cows come home, but, the players want to KNOW what they can do. No one likes playing Mother May I.
