What I Learned in Eberron

My character is new to Sharn, having grown up in the Eldeen Reaches. Clearly the stories she heard about warforged were wrong.

I started off reading the post with a "Wow this player is overreacting just a bit..." but then the above line changed that to "Wow this player would be great to have in a campaign!"

I think it would have been a really neat idea if the undead of Karnathi (or any undead) gain intelligence and individuality like the Warforged did. I mean, if the Warforged somehow got some semblance of intelligence and individuality, why not the undead also?

I thought the Karrnathi Undead creatures were intelligent? That's why they have a seperate entry in the monsters section.

Heh, thanks. :) It's looking to be a fun campaign. There are a few issues - we have no cleric or wizard and our front line is an archer and a rogue - but I'm sure we'll work it out.

In one, I'm a shifter rogue. If you want to be a shifter, play a fighter. That way you get enough feats to take all the cool shifter feats, too. Rogues don't get nearly enough feats.
My experience (with a shifter artificer - ouch because of the hits to intelligence and charisma) is that I desperately want to pick up shifter feats, but because of the way they operate, it's going to be really difficult - it's really hard to satisfy the "two shifter feats" requirement of any of the shifter feats I actually want without picking up a shifter feat you just don't want, or can't get (specifically the wisdom requirement for shifter ferocity, or the steep requirement for great bite...).
We started with the intro adventure, and our warforged artificer was the only party member capable of taking on the beetle swarm.
You too? Because we picked up a sunrod cheap in the markets and were using that as a light source, not one of us had any sort of fire or flame with us. We had to retreat to buy stuff to kill that swarm.
If you're having trouble playing a warforged due to equipment issues, take a level of artificer and take some wands. You can make yourself up to a +5 warforged all day with the right wand or staff, and a wand of repair x damage will do you wonders, too.
Artificer is not a good choice for this - AFAIK, infusions cannot be put into wands or staffs...

Edit: Having looked, I'm probably wrong.
Edit: Having looked again, I'm definately wrong - NPCs have items with infusions in them.

They're more intelligent than your average zombie, but they're still no challenge at a game of chess. ;)

I've been toying with something along those lines: A sort of "Living Dead" subtype, of sorts, with similar changes to the Undead type that the Living Construct type makes to Construct. Base 'em on Flesh Golems for visual looks, and call the PC race example something like "Coffin-Born."

Yes they are - they've got no int or wis mod.

With a charisma of 1 though, they've got some serious interaction problems.

There's more to chess than Int and Wis. Chances are, Karrnathi Undead really aren't good at it.

But hey, that's an adventure plot right there!

When you point out a single published NPC that has profession(chessplayer), I'll believe you.

As is, I dare say that knowledge (combat and tactics) will suffice, and no doubt there's a fair few of the ex-soldier karrnathi undead that have that skill in spades.
