D&D 5E What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

It all seems to come down to personal preference to me. Along with a dose of what you consider important to contributing to the group. Throw in a dollop of ignoring the versatility built into the game then justifying your opinion with argumentum ad populum. 🤷‍♂️

The point that the Dungeon Dudes are accidentally highlighting is the 5e Wizard can fulfill 4-5 of the 7 roles in a party and the other 2-5 PCs have to fight for the remaining 2-3. So it becomes up to the Wizard player to not forfeit more roles or for the DM to take them away. And the other casters have similar high number of role competency.

So if the casters have self-nerf or the DM has to actually hose them. No one asks the ranger to stop doing so much damage, you are stepping on X's and Y's toes.

If they are more than mundane/natural* then they are by definition supernatural.

*In 5e they do push the boundaries into action movie hero but that's just kind of the nature of the game.
It doesn't have to be anything supernatural. Pathfinder provides several such options that are in no way beyond potential human ability such as being able to make bombs with different effects, swatting projectiles out of the air, and being able to completely deflect some spells with a shield. Even gaining followers was mentioned earlier in this thread, and it's been a feature of previous editions.

No, but they're going to be very unhappy if they don't accept WotC's stance on the matter and either look to 3rd party or make their own stuff. I speak for myself as well.
I homebrew a lot of my own stuff because wotc hasn't made it. There's no officisl arcane-martial half caster but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, I'll just make it myself. If not for the fact that I spend a lot of time on reddit where I see a lot of homebrew, I'd almost feel like people have some sort of aversion to making their own races and classes.

They should have enforced opposition schools, with 2 schools of magic a wizard simply cannot not cast from. Also bring back spheres!

OK, I may be the only one who wants the latter. But it at least differentiated clerics more than what form your spirit guardians take.
I wouldn't mind seeing spheres again. I don't think it will happen, but I wouldn't mind. I did actually split up the cleric and druid spells into the old spheres a while back but found it easier to run clerics as is rather than using them, especially since we use dndbeyond so it's easier not to have such far reaching changes.

A lot of the martial/caster disparity comes from giving spells too much power. Charm Person is a huge spell in this category. Too many treat it almost as mind control, when really the best it can do is get you something fairly minor. There are other spells that are also interpreted in a way that makes the spells stronger than intended.
Yeah, making someone a friendly acquaintance isn't really that big a deal. In my games spells are handy, they're rarely a get out of jail free card. There are plenty of ways to stop teleporting for example and people don't pay attention to things like an associated object has to have been taken in the last 6 months.

Not really. Not in 5e anyway. If you do everything by the book, they are out of spells before the 7th fight of the day. Well before if they are doing any utility stuff. A wizard or cleric reduced to cantrips is just support.
the problem is no one can nor wants to play like that, dungeon grinds died off as the main form of play decades ago.

As someone who is actually biracial, the chance at being a half-dragon is something I would much prefer. I can still do it with Dragonborn, but...I mean, half-elf is a race, half-orc is a race, lol

Yup. And does anyone think half-orc is going to make the cut in the next release? It's going to be replaced by full orc for exactly the same reason.

Half-elf? No real ickiness factor there at all. So, that won't be an issue.

Of course there's also the whole actual practical question as well. Exactly how did that black dragon mate with a human? Shapeshifting dragons are one thing, but, most dragons can't do that. So, just exactly what did happen?
