Got Infinite Staircase this past weekend. Also got UltraViolet Grasslands v2 HC - gorgeous book, reminds me of the Incal, but with an RPG in it 😍

And for y'all who are UVG2 curious, there's a bundle right now. Oh yes, I am in.
Speaking of UVG, the []quel (their term) to UVG, Our Golden Age, alongside The Vastlands Guidebook, a standalone rule system book, went up on Backerkit yesterday, blowing past all their stretch goals already.

Someone here tracks their expenses, and shares them occasionally. It inspired me to do the same. Here's where I'm at Jan 1 - Aug 1.

Since I only buy books used at garage sales or used book stores, and then only very specific books - my outlay on books is minimal. And then I sold a bunch of novels to an ENWorld user. Thus I'm actually in the black on books so far this year! However, annual used sale coming in September, so I'm sure that will end 😈

2d Delves, a skirmish wargame, solo and coop. Not an RPG, but I want to see if I can use it as a simple system to run my solo stories. It uses the classic D&D 6 abilities. The Joy of Wargaming YouTube channel has a series about it if you want to know more.

Slowly working my way through the stuff I bought at Gen Con.

I just finished flipping through Fantasy Flight Games's Legends & Lairs: Mythic Races. It...wasn't great.

I get that this was early in the d20 boom, and there was still a lot of design space that was open to being explored in those days, but a lot of the races here just feel uninspired. We've got the "plant race" and the "winged race" and the "four-armed race," etc. The book tries to fill things in with flavor text for each, but it's just not enough. As a company, FFG would hit their stride later (there's an ad in the back for the forthcoming Dragonstar campaign setting), but at this point they seem like they were still figuring things out.

Dragonstar was fun. Somewhere along the line I gave away or sold my books, sadly.

There was an awful lot of the RPG equivalent of shovelware in that period.
