As a race, gnomes have probably changed the most over the editions.
First they favoured the Illusionist class; then in the 3e transition they were kept in via a decidedly steam-punky picture by Lockwood; in essence the 'Artificer' class from Eberron (although this couldn't be fully realised in the time restraints or somesuch but finally was when Eberron came about). Then we were given Bards as Favoured Class in 3.5e - again changing them. Finally, in the new PHB II, we are introduced to the Beguiler class - which is a great mix of rogue and illusion/enchantment-focused sorcerer and some might say a great role-filler for a gnome.
So, what is the iconic Gnome class, in your (no so?
) humble opinion?
