What is the original source for this awesome Lockwood painting?

Fine picture, very fine.

However, I must admit to flaws in my geekdom. One: I had no way of knowing what the map was. Two: I still can't identify the race of the woman in the bottom-right.

To recoup that, I question a background detail: How is the beholder TKing its mug to its mouth with its central eye open? The only thing I can imagine is that the TK eyestalk (number 10, going clockwise from the left, also eyestalk power number 10 in my 3.0 MM) is at an angle just outside the beholder's raised lower central eyelid (clearly visible). Whatever the reason, the elf in white's going to get a nasty surprise in a couple of seconds if she's doing what I think she's doing - the central eye's pupil seems almost exactly aimed at the small of her back...

Personally I'm pleased someone finally managed to make Mialee look hot.

Also it looks to me like the drow and the illithid are looking to come to blows.

edit: crap... mialee isn't a blond is she :(

Nope. In fact, I don't think any of the iconic characters are included in that picture.

Well, that human in armor could be Regdar, but it's hard to tell from the angle.

Lockwood is the Bombdiggity

Isnt that him stealing the jewel eye?

Poster Todd, POSTER!! I cant believe WotC hasnt made this fine painting available as a large poster or Print. Does anyone know if they plan on having it as one in Dragon Mag?

I believe the original inspiration is from a scene from Cannon Ball Run, I might not be correct on that. Dom Deloise as the Beholder and Sammy D is the Gnome. I could be way off base on that.

Thanks,

Ironically, it became my wallpaper today, too. :)
What tried and true D&D players wouldn't make this their desktop?

(a) the map on the table that they are inspecting in the bottom left corner is no less than the Tomb of Horrors.

(b) the salt-and-pepper bearded gent inspecting it looks uncannily like our very own Teflon Billy, who posts to these forums.

(a) I've never seen the Tomb of Horrors. Certainly heard plenty about it though. Nice catch!
(b)Now THAT would be bragging rights!

I loved this image when i saw it in Dragon mag. It's nice that Gamespy was able to put it on their site without mucking it up with their logo. Decent sized pic too.

lol! Since tavern scenes and D&D are synonymous I somehow doubt that, but awesome movie. :D

dvvega: One of those is a kobold, but the other appears to be a goblin.

I know where the demon idol is from (I do have the book), but I don't think I've ever confirmed my suspicions: Is it supposed to be (or was it inspired by) Moloch? Moloch was usually represented as a demon with a furnace in its stomach.
