What is your favorite D&D monster?

Mine is definately the Bulette.

I love this monster! As a DM, there is nothing like having a peasant yell - It's a land shark! It's a land shark! and hen cranking up the theme music from 'Jaws'

Uh, because the secret eater, seeder, hearth horror, vapor bore, polar and ebon spider (plus more- I am not going to dig the book out for spellings) are cooler IMO? Anyways I really don't care for a critter based on a wrestling move.

Owch, just a little nasty. And for the sake of clarity, I stole the maneuver from a video game, not a wrestling move. ;)

Ehh, it never helped that the illo. they ran for it was completely wrong.

But, to avoid a hijack, I'd have to say I've always been fond of Hobgoblins. Orcs are so common, they tend to eclipse the hobgoblin in popularity.

Behir - a slithering reptile with multiple legs that breathes lightning and can swallow whole. Fell in love with this thing when I first saw it in Lost Caverns of T. The 3ed picture doesn't do it justice however.

Annihilator - from the Underdark book I believe. Rust monster's big brother that disintigrates instead of rusts. That just ain't right!

Vrocks, carrion crawlers, gelantious cubes, owlbears are also all cool. And the fiend folio's flailsnail and that humanoid frog thing that beams light from its eyes - silly but cool.

I have to go with the beholder due to his look(very grotesque) and the general "fear" his presence can cause a group to think twice about the encounter they are getting into. My 2nd choice (I know it said favorite) would have to be the hill giant due to the fact I have always used them with great enjoyment in my games.

I do have newfound respect for the aboleth, especially after reading Richard Pett's "The Styes" in Dungeon magazine.

The Styes is one of the most memorable adventures in Dungeon in the last year or so -- I'm trying to think of a way to fit it into my campaign!

Cheers

Drow! They are just the coolest and most vicious race around. Plus they are buddies with all that is evil, well most of whats evil. I remember running City of the Spider Queen, Boy did my Players despise Tsarina and her Red Dragon companion due to amount of chaos she would cause. Drow Wizards are cool as well as the Drow clerics.

20 years ago I would have said "Drow" but They have become way to mainstream with Drizzt ad nauseum...

I also used to love Vampires....

Hmmm...I fondly remember an encounter in 1e with a Disenchanter.

As a DM I love to use Trolls...Trolls rock!

As a Player, Rust Monsters strike fear into my heart.
