I really like playing a lot. However, I often find I enjoy GMing more than most folks do. Also, if a campaign has any chance of running longer than a handful of sessions its likely because I am the GM.

I would kill to play in a Traveller RPG group. Always get stuck as referee.

At this exact moment, I DM most of the time, but it's usually more equal. I'm just doing some hardcore playtesting and also subbing in for a DM with a creative block.

For around 30 years, I was DMing and only was a player in a campaign twice. Here lately, I’ve been a player more than a DM - late 3E and 4E burned me out real bad, and I’ve only recently started feeling the itch to DM/Gamemaster more again.

I’ve also taken to playing a lot more non-D&D games than D&D.

One thing I'm noticing - lots of changes "thanks" to the pandemic and the proliferation of online play.

DMing in person and online are similar but the skill sets are far from identical.

I don’t know about others, but I have found online DMing to be exhausting. I can DM in person 6-8 hours, but after 4 hours of online DMing, I gotta stop - even though I really, really like the automation available online.
Me too, however, it doesnt really hit me until the session is nearly over. I'm all good until the end is near and then I realize it took a lot out of me.

You know, I've never noticed it before but I experience the same. I moved to online when I moved to another state and away from my gaming group 12 or so years ago. Now we only play for four hours but face to face it was 6 or 7. Of course, it could just be that I'm getting old.

Mostly I'm just happy that the online option exists so we can still game as a group.

At the moment it's 50/50 which is kind of unusual for me, I usually DM more. But my wife is running a game for me and my family so I get to play. :)
