I am willing to bet that the 4e game was developed hand-in-hand with the groundwork for a WoW style game that will eventually get the D&D label. I would imagine the suits at Hasbro/WotC are drooling over the profits that the WoW folks have been able to produce, and want a piece of it.

I origianlly agreed with this assessment, even going so far as to believe that Bioware's secret project was in fact a 4E MMORPG, but then it occurred to me: a D&D 4E MMORPG would kill D&DI right out. They directly compete, asking for the same dollars from the same people.

So while I think a Guild Wars/NWN hybrid (MMO universe with instanced adventures that can contain user generated content) is the ultimate evolution of D&D as a property, I don't think it is going to happen with 4E -- WotC wants to try this other thing first (which, of course, will fail for one simple reason: no user generated content in the game that defined user generated content).

I don't know, which ever category Temple of Elemental Evil would have been under. That game was by far the best D&D game I ever played!!

I really liked that one too. One based on Tomb of Horrors or another classic module would be great.

If you can avoid the bugs and survive the Galeb'Dur legions at the upper levels, the game was really awesome at recreating the 3E game rules!

If I only knew where my game cds have gone... I can't find them!

Go for the eyes boo!! squeak!

Would have to be another Baldurs gate style game they were amazing

It gives you the whole D&D feeling of being in a party, while being a single player game so you can play when you want no problem. The script and character interaction was cool as well within the party, so just bring me an updated version of baldurs gate, and if you can manage it translate Edwin (hmm maybe edwin morphed into a tiefling would work really well) and Minsc across and maybe even Haer Daelis.
