CR 2

cr2? well not because of computer geek training (army ... all hardware baby! ... course trying to move a 120 lb disk drive is no joke ... or the several hundred pound line printer or the CPU which was nearly as big as my computer desk) ...

back CR ... yeah, I've gots other types of training too! like with rifles and rocket launchers ... very basic mind you, but it was fun.

wait! why CR 2 you ask? because I can buff the heck out of a floor, and strip it and re-wax it too!

um, sorry ... wolf'll let you guys get back to the discussion at hand

Well I'm a wannae computer geek. Lots and lots of PC game knowledge and I know how to install RAM & my hard drive! But no training or education beyond some very simple vB commands that i learned here :D

BiggusGeekus

That's Latin for "cool"
I have been a UNIX System Administrator, Oracle and Sybase DBA, and I'm currently working as a Java programmer (which is why my site is so low-tech ... when I get home I can't bear to hack more codes).

I am a great big geek.

Well, my degree is in Anthropology (minor African Cultural Studies) and master's work in PaleoAnthropology (2yrs, no thesis), but I have worked as a system's integrator and consultant for eight years, after dropping out of Grad School. So don't no where I fit exactly on the scale as a *nix admin, DBA, developer and general utility infielder where tech is concerned. I know I'm not a supra geek, well, because I don't build Linux kernals for fun and no-profit. :p

Why is it that a Wannabe Computer Geek and Aspiring computer geek a have more computer skills than an actual Computer Geek? :p

Uh... yeah, well... Hell! I don't know! Call it lack of preparation. Perhaps Computer Geek should just be "Geek" :D

I think I qualify for Ultra.

-Abandoned dual-degree (CE and psychology, for application in AI research)
-Solaris SysAdmin cert
-NT certs
-Working on Cisco certs

I'm a PC hobbyist, a c and perl programmer (first enterprise gig was c development to parse RAS router logs to Oracle using Pro*C), and avid PC game player.

I have held positions at Oracle (UNIX development support), MCI WorldCom (UNIX development and network architecture), Level 3 (UNIX system administration), and now... I am a UNIX sysadmin at Sun.

Not convinced? You should have a "number of home systems", "size of home network", and "size of home UPS" discrimination as well.

Computer Information Systems degree. No certifications, though.

C/Informix/Unix/Visual Basic/SQL guru.

I'd rather be a systems analyst, though.
