The mid levels, since the characters sense of self worth is starting to inflate and they are beginning to get a little cocky/reckless. Its real easy to lay some smacketh downeth upon them at these levels. Mmmmmm, humble pie, yum!

You know, one of the biggest differences that I have found in regards to 3e vs. AD&D - in AD&D I preferred running games for levels 1-5 the most. (Sometime after the wizard got his second fireball it seemed like the players' minds were turned off...)

In 3rd I have run games all the way to 15th level, and enjoyed all of them. The characters seem a lot more varied, with none of the cookie cutter approach that I found in AD&D. If I had to piclk it would be 3-12, but I have liked them all.

Heh... you need to have an 'other' option. I seem to prefer dming whatever level we're playing at the time, as long as we've worked our way up to it. I definitely prefer to start at 1st level. I guess I'm voting for the levels my games are currently at. :) And 1st...

I like anything level 1 to 7 but mostly because it has been years since anyone has gotten above 7th level due to the game ending. Real Life interferes waaay too much ;)
But the group I am DMing now (if it doesnt fall apart) should hit 8th level this summer.
I don't forsee any reason why I won't like it just as much.
