All of them. No, seriously, each of them have their own charms and challenges. I just don't get to run games as much as I'd like. :\

I think I like 3-10 (12 on this scale) about best -- the characters are still identifiably human (or whatever), rather than pushing themselves into demi-god status. It's easy to fit them into a world that functions more or less normally. Levels 1 & 2 are pretty weak -- too easy to die. Above that things get ridiculous fast if you really want to challenge the abilities of the characters (as opposed to motivations of the characters).

So yeah, about 3-10.

Though I'm currently running two epic-level campagins (the characters are 25th level in one and 21st in the other), I've always favored low level campaigns. Characters have to contend with a ton of factors, and I enjoy being able to throw an orc with a greataxe at my players and have them worry about what will happen if they get hit. Critical hits are spectacular at these levels as well, and magic isn't outrageous. Now, this isn't to say that epic level campaigns don't have their appeal as well (as I said earlier, I'm running two of them!), but I just don't have enough experience with them yet to be good with them.

Voted for 3-12, most interesting encounters I come up with or monsters I like to use are fom that range, I dislike first and second levels imply because they usually bear a character as commoner x character as hero probem, people want them as heroes innately, I see them as everyone else in a world. Most players make up the heropic and great knight story and ideda at level 1, nobody makes the unknown squire who wants to be a knight...

In addition I hate coming up with reasons for a group to meet.

Another 3 thru 12 set of votes here. I don't really mind the 1st and 2nd level either as they are the formative levels for a character in my opinion. In know my current group has had some great company building experiences at these lower levels.

I like having characters whose abilities can match their experiences, so I prefer starting at level 5 and going to about level 10 or so. Not to mention, you can diversify skills and feats a lot better when you have a bit more wiggle room.

The poll results are just where I expected them to be. 3rd-12th level being the most fun and the least contentious. Hopefully the designers over at WotC take a hard look as to why these levels work best when reviewing high level play for 4e. These are the levels I enjoy the most as well. I usually start campaigns at 2nd or 3rd level anyway and tone down the critical hits a bit to reduce the 1 hit kills...

Cheers!
