I went with the 5-15 range. I don't appreciate the small scale of plots and the narrowness of PC capability associated with low levels. I also feel that I can acheive the sort of world shaking plot I like in levels 10-15, but feel that beyond that, you are just making the same task less manageable with bigger numbers, more attacks, and more PC capability but not really expanding my horizons for the type of plots I want to run any further.

I enjoy 1-10 the most, but D&Ds "sweet spot" is about 3-7. I've played and DMed D&D past 10th, and it doesn't have any appeal to me. After 10th, things either seem insanely deadly, or pushovers, neither of which is fun to play or run. Plus, the paperwork for both players and DMs after 10th is a nightmare, and IMO its better to keep things managable and fun.

I voted 8th and beyond, even if I haven't DMed past 14th level yet.
I like spending time thinking ways to make the most out of NPCs. I also enjoy the freedom high level gives me when making adventure plots and locations.

I've been running my campaign from 1st level to now 18th. I don't find 18th much harder than 8th or 3rd. The extra complexity involved in 18th level encounters is made up by the character motivations I have. An 18th level character should be riddled with plot hooks waiting to be pulled on. Party cohesion should be good enough that the rest will go along when only one or two people are motivated to do something.

Plus they have enough visibility that I can logically use the "petitioners from a village far away come asking your help" ploy if I ever want to. Replace "petitioner" with "Baron Nerverheardofhim, cousin to Duke Yousworeallegianceto" and it's ever so much more palatable.

Yep, that's me as well. I actually almost prefer not to start at 1st level, but 1st level has a charm all its own too. My sweet spot is definately somewhere in the vicinity of 3-7, though.

I love the 3 - 9 range. In those 6 levels, you really see characters grow. The enemies that are suitable for this range of levels are also some of my favorites, as multiple enemies are still important and you don't need to challenge the party with "the elder dragon who has been a sleep for the past 10,000 years but just woke up the second your reached level 19" type of monsters. Also, character skills are still at a level where the character can simply take a 1 and still jump the 60 foot chasm, etc.
