How about Mekton?

Or Teenagers From Outer Space?

Lace and Steel.

I barely remember the rules but recall they were interesting. However any game who's core ancestries includes Satyr needs to be more popular in my opinion. :)
That it was one of 3, alongside human and "I forget", made it all the better. A tight core where each therefore had room to have depth and lore.
Human, Satyr, Centaur and Harpy, IIRC. A Pauli Kidd design with Donna Barr art, to my recollection. Pretty sure the rules included card-based systems for dueling, for magic, and for social repartee.

How about Mekton?
When I was in Austin in the early 1990s, our group had a rule where everyone was responsible for running a campaign (we had a rotation system) and everyone had to make a PC for each campaign. One guy was BIG into anime, and wanted to run some kind of campaign where we were all mech pilots.

He had good ideas…but never quite found a system that he liked enough to run long term. He’d run something for 2-3 sessions, then scrap it and start anew in a different system.

Mekton was one of the systems he tried. TBH, I don’t remember much of it or which particular mech-jockey I ran in it (30+ years ago) but it definitely didn’t get in my way while designing a PC.

I remembered the game having some balance issues (Reflex being the god-stat even above Dex in D&D), and dug up some interesting post-mortem posts from Reddit on the game.

I did love the setting and feel, though (I think I still have my copies of the game and at least one expansion), so it seems like a good candidate for a fix/redesign. Although apparently Mike Pondsmith kickstarted a new edition in 2013-2018 but it never panned out and he wound up refunding backers.
