What monster killed your first PC?

Dispel Magic

I DM most of the time, too, so it wasn't until very late into 2nd Edition that I had my first PC death. My online namesake, Agamon, a necromancer, was levitating over a thousand-foot gorge. One dispel magic later turns the wizard into splatter along the gorge floor.

Androg, my elf 6 was caught in a fireball by the party magic-user. He felt bad so he reincarnated me (as a human, so I took up wizardry and played him for quite a while after that).

My first character was a so long time ago. It was in basic D&D (red boxed set). I was playing a 3rd level human fighter called "Le Borgne" (The One-Eyed) to whom I had given 18 in Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution instead of honestly rolling the dice. This was not only my first character, but also my first gaming session. The dungeon was typical of those days: a door, a room, a monster, and a treasure. No CRs!! My character found four coffins in a 10x10 feet room, and not knowing the game's archetypes opened one of them, to be subsequently killed by a (8 HD) vampire.

My first PC never died, although I did play her for quite a while (I think she was 7th-9th level).

My first PC to die was a paladin who died from laying hands on himself...really.

We were fighting a major battle in a graveyard. In the previous adventure I had been hit by a ray that gave artifact level powers if they affected someone (straight from the artifact tables, although I believe they were preset). I ended up with poison touch. Yup, a paladin with poison touch.

The battle was going poorly because the campaign had taken a long leave and everyone was rusty. We had a shot if I could last a bit longer, so I took the plunge and laid on hands - and failed my save.

Hmm... first PC death was probably about 7 or 8 years ago. I had a samurai in 2nd ed. and was in a party of ninjas. We were walking along a road towards a castle (turned out to be Straud's) and i was mauled to death by a werewolf. Good times

My first -- and for now, only -- D&D PC death was caused by a slay living trap and a natural 1 on a Fort save...

My first PC death ever, not in D&D, was caused by a vampire. Loot tomb, open coffin, die. Cool.

The first D&D PC death I caused as a DM was through a Red Wyrmling. The second through a gourmet ogre-mage, who demonstrated how to make the most out of an annoying prisonner. :]

Too long ago to remember really. I was a kid, about 10 or 11, and it was probably something in a 10x10 ft room with an entire hoard of treasure? Beats me what it is, but I lost a lot of characters in those days. Since coming to 3e and 3.5e, I don't think a character has died on me, but I almost lost one to Quth-Maren in City of the Spider Queen.

The monster I first used to kill a PC... let's look back... it was a homebrewed shoggoth (significantly weaker than the CoC d20 version). Caught the cleric in its psuedopods, grabbed her head, and twisted it off like a bottlecap.

Demiurge out.
